- Reinstalling TCP/IP on XP
-
Problem is on XP Home. It doesn't get an IP assigned to it, and the
response to
ping 192.168.2.1
is similar to
Pinging àÉÇ with 32 bytes of data:
So I used "netsh int ip reset" but no change.
Then I tried the method in the KB for Server 2003 to uninstall it first, but
it won't reinstall.
Next I was going to try sfc and reapplying SP3. I just wanted to ask if
there's another option I haven't thought of.

- How do you copy files in Windows 7?
-
I wanted to copy some photos to an external disk.
I marked them to copy -- difficult, because it only seems to have icon view,
and not list view, so one has to go Ctrl-C and click on every one.
But when I had marked about 5, it began tyo copy them to somewhere else on the
SAME disk.
I try again, and it starts makinigt aother copy of the files on the SAME disk.
As a result there is a HUGE waste of time, having to delete these folders
individually, and instead of making backups I've probably deleted some of the
originals as well.
Something that takes 30 seconds in XP is going to take me 30 hours in Windows
7.
Why to Microsoft have to make every new version more difficult to use than the
last?

- Solution for: Windows XP (NL): Windows Activation Problem + Windows
-
I think I have found a solution on the internet, I will sum it up
shortly because the description wasn't that accurate, my description
will be more accurate with additional information about what I think
might have happened, but first a little story what I wanted to do
today:
Today I wanted to try and install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP dutch
version (NL).
This was not possible because Windows Automatic Updates was required
by the Microsoft website to be able to download it and windows
automatic updates is malfunctioning, so that became a short attempt.
Then I decided to look into the matter/problem some more... I came
across what seems to be a solution, the solution is:
First stop windows automatic updates. (Via Control Panel/
Administrative Tools/Services)
(ConfiguratieScherm/Systeembeheer/Services)
Then open Windows Explorer/My Computer/This Computer and open the
following folder:
C:\Windows
Inside that folder is another yellow folder called:
SoftwareDistribution.
Rename this folder to for example SoftwareDistribution(Old).
(right click to get pop up menu with has the rename option).
Then start windows automatic updates again.
Then go to windowsupdate.microsoft.com or simply
update.microsoft.com
It will now simply redownload the web controls for automatic updates I
think... and it will make a new folder called SoftwareDistribution.
This folder should then only be 5.81 MB big or so...
The strange thing is that the old folder was 600 MB ?!
Furthermore the windows update site says that hundreds of patches were
not/never installed ?!?
Is it maybe confused... because the old history is now gone (via the
old folder rename) or were they never installed because of maybe some
stupid anti virus product or some other problem ?
For now I guess windows update is simply confused and the patches were
installed.
So far so good.
I will now attempt to skip over these 100's of patches and instead
install service pack 3 which seems a smart thing to do... the 100's of
patches are for sp2 only probably... and that's old... installing
those patches could conflict with sp3 very maybe...
So first sp3 and then i'll attempt another update to get the latest
patches for sp3.
And hopefully then this computer will start to work better again,
hopefully flash 10.x will install... and hopefully the computer can
then be considered "saved" and secure/updating again and running
smoothly again.
This have to re-install everything would be way too much work for my
taste ! ;) :) including the backup and restoring of stuff bleh ;)
Could take days to do such a thing...
Therefore hopefully this sp3 will do the trick and keep ths computer
running for a while ;) :)
(I also contacted microsoft support... but I probably won't be needing
that... oh well...)
I'll return with another post to let you know how it went...
Bye,
Skybuck.

- Window Media Player + Static
-
Hi,
When playing some flv videos I seem to get some static (noise). Most
of my flv's play without producing static.
If I choose another player, there is no static.
I want to use Windows Media Player, but would like to eliminate the
static.
Is there a plugin or any other way of eliminating the static in WMP?
Thanks

- PXE booting from Windows 2000 - session/OS setup?
-
Got an old Windows 2000 server (I didnt set up) that is used for PXE
booting.
Basically, I can DHCP boot another machine from it.
Then I get blue screen with white text informing me that this is the
Client Installation Wizard.
I log on using username PXE and then it gives me a list of 'operating
systems'. This corresponds to the name of ghost sessions I have
available to run on the server.
Question is:- Where on the PXE server are these 'operating systems'
configured?

- text in excel embedded links prints bold in slide show
-
In EXCEL 2007 if I copy a block of cells (no bold, automatic text
color {black}, and no fill), and PASTE SPECIAL>EMBED AS LINK into PPT
2007, the text displays as expected but when the slide show is started
all the text is bold (it appears that the text is being outlined as
colored text will have a black border around it).
If I set the cell fill in EXCEL to any color (white, yellow, etc.) the
text renders correctly after the embedding into PPT both in edit and
slide show modes (the fill seems to 'hide' the outline around the
text).
The same problem exists with an embedded chart's axis lettering and
titles, but I have been unable to figure out a way to stop it as I did
with filling the cells.
Is this a 'bug' or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

- outlook 2010 bugs
-
These bugs are reproducable (office pro 2010, win xp sp 3, upgraded from
office pro 2007).
Outlook 2007 didn't have these bugs on same computer.
1. I have 4 outlook accounts, 4th is hotmail account. (plugin hotmail has
been updated)
when doing send/receive all, he can send through hotmail (so uid/pass is
right), but he doesn't write "receiving" and tells error 0x80004005
synchronizing mail account. Error 4203.
2. I have a contact, let's say john smith, with an e-mail address. When
clicking "new e-mail", then typing john smith, clicking on "Check names", he
doesn't find it. Even worst, typing the first name, he doesn't even propose
contact in suggestions, and if I click on "show more names", he proposes the
right contact. Shouldn't he propose the name of contacts folder, if it is
typed correctly?

Alain

- Making visible the anchor point for floating drawing canvas
-
I followed http://www.ai.uga.edu/mc/FloatFigWord.pdf to create
floating figures. In Word 2003, the advanced layout options I used to
put the drawing canvas at the top of a column were:
* Text Wrapping: Top and bottom
* Picture Position:
- Horizontal: "Alignment" "Left" relative to "Column"
- Vertical: "Alignment" "Top" relative to "Margin"
I can switch between the above positioning and "In line with text" to
see where the figure is when it isn't floating. I also noted that
even when the figure was floating, deleting the text where it resides
when it is inline would also cause the floating figure to be deleted.
This means there is an "anchor" point at the place where it resides
when it is inline.
Is there a way to make this anchor visible so that I don't go deleting
it, and so that I know when the anchor is pushed to another new column
when composing/editing? Tools->Options->View allows me to activate
visibility of object anchors, but that's only when the object (the
drawing canvas in this case) is selected.

-
Assume I have got an *.exe or *.dll. How can I find out (without trial and error) if this

Is there a inspect tool/easy (!) disassembler which peeks into the binary code and
tells me the information? Maybe a built-in WinXP tool?

I have been testing a utility called Key Finder. It

Any one know of a utility like this, only that gets

I'm running IE8 with OE on a WinXP machine. Comcast is my ISP.
If I address an email to my friends and family that have comcast.net email
addresses, and/or myself, and to others outside the comcast domain, only
those outside the comcast domain receive the email. This is happenning
only on one machine, so it has something to do with OE.
If I use the Comcast webmail, everything works fine.
Any ideas?
