windows xp & firewall. by HANGMAN
Help please--My wife's thinkpad has xp home, serv pack3. No matter howmany times I enable windows firewall it always is turned off when I
reboot. I go to security center and set it. I also set it thru my
wireless connection. But sure enough when I reboot I get the little red
shield in the tray telling me no firewall. Any ideas?

- pick one or the other. You should run some kind of firewall though.
If you have another firewall and like it better, you can leave the
Windows firewall off and stop the reminder message about it.

to use macafee, however i uninstalled it completely and installed
microsoft security essentials. I have other machines and this is not an
issue with firewall. The other machines are configured the same. Just
this laptop.

The startup type is automatic under services. Well there is alittle more
to my problem here--My wife is outa town so I thought i'd clean up her
laptop. First I notice I could not boot without the little red shield
coming up. It says no firewall can be detected. Then I notice that she
could no longer see the shared folders on my desktop (configured the same)
cable broadband with a linksys router. It's gota be related because in
services it says "Windows Firewall/Internet Connection sharing (ICS). I
can see her laptop shared folders on the network but she can't see mine.
She's done something here.
After rebooting after choosing selective startup the firewall service
shows it is running however when I check the Security ctr it is not
enabled and the little red shield is there again.
