Error code 80070424 by carwashengr

I can't update windows, can't validate windows, can't download from
microsoft, Tried all the possable setting adj. I could find within IE
tools/Internet options/security/custom level... My O.S. is vista home basic
that came with my acer laptop. Active x seems to be the problem more than
likely cause I think would be a virus that got to activex. I did try some
differant tools even found a scanner repair tool on a microsoft site, it did
find the errors but when it connected back to the site for repair it had a
connect error and failed. just like everthing on the microsoft site validate
or update sites.

Error message when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites
to install updates: 0x80070424
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968002
Basically, the error code means that a required service for updating the
OS is not registered, not running, or has been so severely damaged that
it can no longer function.
First try registering this .dll file from an Elevated Command Prompt.
Click the Start orb > in the Start Search field type in the following
cmd
*RIGHT* click cmd.exe and choose 'Run as administrator'
Follow the UAC prompts to allow it to run Elevated
At the prompt type in following commands pressing Enter after *each* one
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
exit
Did wuaueng.dll register successfully or was there a message stating
that it could not be register properly ?
If the former, restart the system and see if it can now search for updates.
If the latter, strongly suggest that you first scan the system with
Malwarebytes anti-malware
http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Click the 'Download - *free* version' button.
Now read:
Malwarebytes Anti-malware Tutorial

IF malware is detected then strongly suggest that you post to a
reputable anti-malware forum for further assistance:

You have a nasty bug. What AV are you running? If you have a thumb drive
and access to another computer download Malwarebytes to the thumb drive and
try to install. If you still can't run it you may be looking at a
reformat/re-install. Sorry.

I might also say that I get
0x80072efd Error
as well

0x80070424 in conjunction with 0x80072efd is *definitely* an indication
that the system is infected.
You will not be able to seek assistance at online anti-malware forums as
the system is being blocked from them and from downloading anti-malware
tools.
The only way you'll be able to download anti-malware software is to
another system or to a portable drive (thumb, external USB, etc)
Strongly suggest you have someone take a look at the system who has past
experience dealing with malware.
And, *back up* all data that you want preserved ASAP !

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your
subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?
What third-party firewall (if any)?
Has a(another) Norton or McAfee application ever been installed on the
computer (e.g., a free-trial version that came preinstalled when you bought
it)?
