• Problems installing Microsoft Updates (esp Service Pack 3)
  • Hi, Since Novmber I've had trouble installing Microsoft Updates (inc Service Pack 3). I get this message:- "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation package PRO11.MSI in the box below" I know very little about computers. I also get a message about neding to find PRO11.MSI if I try to open Excel (Works 2003). It asks me to insert a disk but my computer hasn't got a Works 2003 disk. Might it be on a combination installation disk of some sort? Any thoughts?

  • I do not have disk, Office 2003 came with my computer when I bought it. Running XP. Office 2003 SP3 will download but not install. Previous SP1 and SP2 installed OK. Numerous attempts to install SP3 have failed. Why can't Microsoft adjust download-updates to install properly? Need detailed instructions in simple language in simple steps to get this to install.   • Tried several times to update. Went through FAQ. Tried some troubleshooting. But still getting FAIL. Funny thing is, The same updates were successful on two other machines on same network.   • No update does work any more, neither "Microsoft update" nor "Windows update". Antivirus-software (Kaspersky IS 2009) is disabled. The internet update function on other workstations in the lan works without any problems. There's no server in lan, workstations are behind a common internet router. Error 0x8024D007: (The disired page couldn't be displayed ....) Same error on both versions of update-method. I use the german version of windows xp sp3, messages are translated. The error did already exist at windows xp sp2 and appeared first in april 2009.

  • Hi, I've installed this update 3x (and related updates all that show "failed" in the update history -- this is the first of the updates to "fail") without success. Each time the update installs and then locks the computer. To get beyond this I need to boot in safe mode, select a restore point prior to installation of update, reboot and go from there. I'm running a Dell d630, with updated drivers, and 4 gb ram.

I have these .NET items already installed: .NET 1.0.3705 .NET 1.0 Hotfix (KB928367) .NET 1.1 .NET 2.0 SP2 .NET 3.0 SP2 .NET 3.5 SP1 KB953297 shows as a High Priority .NET update at MS Update for me, but installation fails: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (KB953297) KB940157 an Optional Software update also fails to install: Windows Search 4.0 for Windows XP (KB940157) All other updates installed OK so it's just a problem with these two.   • Like I have been doing in the past, I was asked today if I want to download 12 Microsoft updates for my home-edition XP platform during the shutdown, I went ahead to install them, and PC pwoered off after it. Later when I attempted to pwoer on, the OS was crashed and couldn't even get to the desktop. Can't run the safe mode either. • Updates Install Automatically - Set To Download But Not Install
  • I have XP machines configured to Download but not Install Windows Updates. I have checked registry, group policy and Control Panel configurations and all reflect this option [or in the case of Group Policy they are not configured which I believe means they do not apply]. Despite this one machine downloaded and installed automatically yesterday and I am unable to determine why this might be - settings are the same on multiple machines [they were cloned from a single master image] yet this happened on only one machine. The machines are running a restaurant POS and it is preferable for us to shut down the POS prior to any reboot - a hard reboot like this has the potential to compromise the DB. Any thoughts as to where I might look to identify the cause of this errant behaviour would be very welcome. Thank you

  • I'm running Vista Home Premium 32-bit OS. When I first got the computer, update worked great... a few months ago, update would *say* it downloaded and installed whatever updates it had found, then it just would NOT download them at all. For awhile, I was too busy to keep messing with it... then I found Auto-Patcher (an alternative updater) and thought the problem was solved, but just as with the original updater, when I search for them in Add-Remove Programs or in Update History, the computer says there are NONE. That's not good because it's a security issue, among other things. I really need some help -- and NO, update refused to download and install... tried that today.   • Windows Update continually failed to download some updates. Apparently, my Comodo Firewall was interfering. --Right click on Comodo system tray icon. --Select Defense + Security Level. --Select Disabled. After download finishes, restore to prior mode (you can reset the security level during the restore point creation -- any time after the download portion has been completed). I may try Training Mode next time, just for grins.

  • I am having trouble getting sp3 to install. I am able to install other updates and they all installed fine except SP3 and HID data filter. I have a dell 400 sc with a 2.4 ghz proc, 2mb ram XP pro. no virus prog installed or running . I uninstalled avg to see if that was the issue. I tried ti HID fix and registered the file iin the kb and no go. Needing to know the next sstep. Thanks

  • I just updated my Vista SP2 computer and during the installation saw the error code 80240016. When the computer rebooted everything was fine, all the updates were installed. Just for good measure I tried WU again and there were no updates to be had. This is not typical behavior but everything seems fine. Just passing this on. All the best, Dave Horne

  • At one point I had someone put an infected flash drive into my computer and since then I have been receiving this message when I insert my mp3 player: Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c When it happened I ran MalwareBytes and deleted said virus, but now I am having trouble with any kind of external storage devices being plugged into my laptop. Admittedly there are no performance issues, I can just move the box out of the way and continue dragging and dropping data, but I am worried about the compatability issues and what it may do to others' hardware after being plugged into mine. I would appreciate whatever help you guys can give.   • I downloaded the trial version for 30 days however, I can install the office 12 due to what I believe the error code 646 when I am trying to install updates on my system. This is becoming an issue becayse each month I am experiencing problems with installation of updates.

  • I'm posting this for a friend who had his computer to crash and he did a system restore and lost some old emails. Is there any way to get those emails back? Here is something he wrote- I am looking for the person who had the friends who were going to buy our NQC tickets for 2010. The were going to retire and use our tickets this year. My computer crashed due to a corrupted hard drive and when I did a total system restore it deleted all my old saved emails so I cannot contact them. Thanks And here is another message he wrote when I ask him if his system was windows xp, and he told me it was. I had to do a total reboot from recovery disks and it reverted me back to 2003 when I bought the computer. When I reloaded Microsoft Outlook it did not recognize my previous emails. All my folders were blank in spite of the fact that the recovery process said all my data file would be saved. James Any help would be appreciated-Thank You.

  • Hi - thanks for any help. Please forgive me if I am not describing my issue correctly. I installed the ITE - Other hardware - UMass Storage Device(310) update via Microsoft Update and my usb thumb drive now does not show up in the "Safely Remove Hardware" when I want to stop and eject it. It DOES however still appear in the "My Computer" as a valid drive. Also, after I installed the update, I got a blue screen (I was not able to document the error codes, but if it happens again I will). If anyone can help - I would appreciate it.   • I've been working with Microsoft for over a month without resolution and it has now come down to reinstalling my operating system which I really would like to avoid. I noticed in December that I was not getting any update notifications so after about 2 weeks I went to the website for updates and when I click express I now get Error number: 0x80090008. This even comes up when I try to update windows defender software. I can't believe that there is no reference to what this error number refers to. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Thia has been failing since October last year. For a long while, there were two updates that failed every time (the other being KB973565) but eventually I ran the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista as recommended in the help and KB973565 then installed. But KB971644 still fails every time. It's the Platform Update for Windows Vista, and I'm on Vista Business (Build 6002: Service Pack 2). Anyone got any ideas? -- Steve

• Client reboot every day at 3am
  • WIndows server 2003 clients configured Auto-update through WUSU server before. Just recently these servers reboot at 3am every night even removed from WUSU --AD intergrated. These servers were also reconfigured in registry --NoAutoUpdate ==Dword : 1. But there are still a few servers reboot at 3am . SUS clients ID were deleted from the registry but they always came back after reboot. Any advise ?
