• Isolating computers on a LAN from each other - A special kind of switch
  • Hello All, I have an ADSL modem with just a single connection coming outof it, which goes into a simple simple hub to which I've connected several computers. Currently I want to install another computer on which I should be able to do *anything* with it in regard to downloading stuff from the web, which means its pretty open to catching some sort of disease .... For this reason I need it to be seperated from my other computers (only be able talk to the internet, not to any of the other computers I have). I thought of a special kind of switch, one with a single output (to the model) and two or more inputs (from the computers). The data coming from the inputs will only be routed to the output, *not* to any of the other inputs. Ofcourse, any data coming in from the modem for one of the computers will be routed to it (and only it). My question : does some sort of device like it exist (for the consumer-market) ? I've taken a look at NetGear and LinkSys, but can't seem to create a search-query to return anything worthwhile. If anyone knows another solution (*not* involving setting up a seperate computer) I would allso like to hear about it. Regards, Rudy Wieser

  • I have a computer that's running surveillance software. The computer is connected to broadband internet via a d-link router and the router gets dynamic IP from my ISP. I would like to set up the computer so I can view the computer's desktop over the internet on a web browser. that is view the surveillance pictures - since the surveillance software and cameras load automatically when ever the computer boots up. The computer is running a security software called Diginet surveillance software. The connection needs to be done in a way that viewing desktop/surveillance pictures on the web will not disrupt the computer's operations at location . I have tried remote desktop. it's a mess. Does anyone know how to do this using native XP/SP2/SP3 professional objects or free third party software? I would appreciate any pointers. Thanks in advance.

• Connection dropped routinely
  • I am running a Dell Inspiron 8200 With Win. XP SP3. I upgraded to a Netgear DGN 2000 Router / Modem and also installed an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 BG Network Controller. My ethernet connection is a 3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller. It doesn't matter whether I connect by cable or wireless, after I am connected, the connection is dropped every 20 sec. for a period of a sec. or two. I get the bubble "limited or no connectivity" followed by "acquiring network address". It then connects again for another 20 sec. I have upgraded the firmware on the router but can't update drivers for the Intel card because connection is constantly dropped. I have turned off firewall settings for Norton Internet Security but it doesn't matter. I suspect setting issues.
• Can't access desktop--ZA Problem
  • Howdy. For years I've had my desktop and then a wireless laptop which was able to access some files on my desktop. All of a sudden, it can't find the network path. When I disable Zone Alarm from the laptop, it works fine. I probably did do a ZA upgrade recently but I'm not sure. I still seem to have addresses listed in the Trusted Zone, but I'm not sure if they are correct. It's been many years since I set it up. Any suggestions/guidance would be appreciated. Mel
• User switch drops wireless network connection
  • XP Pro SP3 on a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with fast user switching enabled and connected to an 802.11g wireless home network. Every time I switch users the wireless network connection is lost and takes a minute or more to reconnect. This is very annoying. How can I prevent this? Thanks. -- .Bill.
• Please help me get Remote Desktop to work.
  • I'm trying to connect through the web browser IE8 to XP Prof host PC. With the ActiveX plugin running I select the desired resolution and click on the connect button. A window then pops up that asks some questions related to printer/file sharing and when I click its connect button a border of a window appears momentarily in the browser and then the ActiveX remote login web page comes back. No error message of any kind is given. I have followed all the steps to the letter on enabling RD support on host PC. For example, I read and followed this page: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/northrup_03may16.mspx On the server side I have disabled windows firewall and My McAfee personal firewall has all IP and ports enabled for IIS and I also added a rule that permits RDP. I also tried disabling that firewall too. I have IIS and WWW serivces installed and port changed from 80 to 50000. I have a linksys 54GL router which forwards ports 443. 3389 and 50000 to my host pc, whose local IP is 192.168.1.100 I just don't get it. All the research I've done says it should work but it instantly closes (doesn't even ask me for username/password) and returns to the IE screen that asks for server and screen size. Without any error messages. Has anyone run into this?
• Network Printer Problems
  • Windows XP PCs/laptops all running on a shared home network. Set up printer connected to one of the PCs for sharing. When attempting to connect one of the PCs(laptops) to a printer, which I can see using browsing, I get an error message (Error: The printer name is not valid). Tried renaming. Current name "HP2200". Highlight the "browsed" printer and click Next, I get the error; "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Either the printer name was typed incorrectly or the specified printer has lost its connection to the server. For more information, click help".
• File sharing working one way
  • Can't find the solution in other posts so far. A curious problem. Couldn't ping either way in a 2-computer network. Disabled the firewall and turned the router firewall on and now can ping both ways. On computer #1, I can see the shared folders and files on computer #2 and print to its shared printer. On computer #2, I can see the shared folders on computer #1, but cannot access the files, but can print to its shared printer. Also have a shared USB drive that is visible, but not accessible. I've tried unsharing and resharing the folders to no avail. What am I missing? This was working several weeks ago but has all of a sudden stopped.
• Shared folder over network suddenly asks for password
  • I have 3 computers on my home network, Dad, Son and Laptop. Dad has XP Media center addition, the other two XP Home (all with SP3). I backup Laptop work files to Shared folder on Dad. Suddenly I cannot access shared folder on Dad, which now asks for a password. I do not have users password protected. I have tried every conceivable password I have ever used, with no success. Dad can ping Son and Laptop without any problems and son and laptop can ping Dad. Neither Son nor Laptop can access shared folder on Dad. I have disabled all firewalls. I have simple file sharing enabled on Dad (media center apparently is like XP Pro in allowing this option). I have run and rerun Network Wizard and even renamed all the computers to see what happens. The shared folder on Dad continues to ask for a password whenever I try to access shared folder on Dad from either Son or Laptop. This occured I believe after I deleted another user account on Dad that *was* password protected, but I did not need anymore. The shared folder on Dad obviously has nothing to do with that account. Guest accounts are active on all computers as I've read Microsoft Tec Bulletins that say disabling Guest can cause problems accessing some network resources. This is *not* a problem with a lost password. Dad was never password protected in the first place, other than the single user account now deleted. All computers show up when I check for networked computers on Son, Laptop and Dad. I have even placed Dad outside the router firewall, with no success. I have seen others with this sudden problem but no solution. Any help would be appreciated. ..........Bob
• Cannot load device driver for network adapter code 39
  • After cleaning a virus/trojan from my WinXP system I cannot get my network adapters to load. In Device Manager they both have yellow exclamation marks and the error "Cannot load device driver for network adapter (code 39)". There are 4 other devices called "Wan Miniports" that also have the same error. I've reinstalled windows XP, and reinstalled the device drivers without luck. I also tried various TCP/IP and Winsock fixes without effect. I installed a fresh copy of WinXP in another folder and everything works perfectly so I know my hardware and internet connection are fine. This happened to me last year and I had to reinstall my system, but it took me weeks to reinstall my apps and get every working correctly. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! - Scott.

  • Hello All, I dont have much experience in networking hope some one can help me with this. I am in a school network with ip address 166.X.X.X. My XP PC is connected to the network i have an ip of 166.X.X.X. ( i will name my PC as 'PC A'). For a specific project we purchased a win NT 4.0 workstation PC ( i will call this PC 'PC B') and wanted to connect to our network 166.X.X.X so we decided to do a ICS ( internet connection sharing) with my PC A which is in XP everything went well and the PC B was assigned a ip of 192.168.X.X we are able to surf network with both PC A & PC B . but when we want to share files to PC B from my friends PC whos is in the network with ip 166.X.X.X the PC B does not shows! also when we ping the ip of PC B '192.X.X.X' from our ip 166.X.X.X there is no responce but i am able to share files from PC A and also able to ping from PC A. Is this a limitation in ICS that the client PC will not be shown outside the internal network? any solution to solve this is much appreciated I was suggested that i need to use a dual LAN server if i need to see the clients outside the internal networks... The reason for me to ping is i need to send some packets to this PC B and wants its response to this. Thanks, sorry for long description! Rufus

• Networkdrive doesn't work on Nlite XP Asus eee 901
  • Hi, My Network Space Drive from LaCie doesnt work on my Asus 901 eeepc. I have installed a Nlite version of XP on this laptop, for it is much smaller and faster but doesnt have all the features. There's a big chance I dont have some network proces running or something not installed that is needed for the LaCie drive to work. When installing the LaCie Network Assistant, it sais: script: C:/progfiles/lacie/ethernetagent/bonjour.vbs system cant find the file 80070002 Source (null) Ofcourse I hope I can keep my Nlite-XP so is there anyone who can point me in the direction of which file or process to add to make the drive work? I've looked into this Bonjour process and it seems to be running on my laptop. Thanks! Wouter
• File Sharing in a Peer to Peer Network
  • Hello Everyone: I am trying to implement file sharing in a Windows/XP Peer to Peer Network. I have 10 Windows/XP computers networked together -some of them are allocated to Staff, others are Guest machines. I need the Staff machines to be able to share files and I need those shared files to be inaccessible (and preferably not visible) to the Guest machines. My starting point was to disable Simple File Sharing so that I could use the user level permissions. (Simple File Sharing does work in this configuration, but I would like more access control at a user or machine or workgroup level.) When I try to set permissions, the Shared Document Properties shows me local objects only, not other machines/users on the network i.e. in Permissions/Add/Select Users or Groups, I am not able to select anything other than the local machine. Can someone oint me in the right direction? Thanks. . . Tony N.

  • Dear All, I am glad to be back here. I have a problem with my windows XP computer; I have a wireless modem to connect to my ISP the drivers installed successfully. However I have to use also my internal modem by going through the new connection wizard and by selecting to set it up manually. the problem is that when I arrive at that step it gives me only "connect using a broadband connection that is always on"; the choices to choose "Connect using a dial up modem" and "Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password" are not given, they seem not highlited and not given as an option. But i want to use the first option in order to be connected. Could you help me please? Thank you in advance!

• VPN that passes firewall?
  • I have several computers in a peer-to-peer LAN at one office. Several machines have shared folders. Now a new office is opened that I travel to a few times a month and I need to access the LAN from the new office. The total size of the files in the shared folders is a few megabytes (excel and word files). I'm running windows XP and vista. There is no dedicated servers or domain controllers and I'd like to keep it that way because there is no one to maintain the server. In both locations (a rented office in a building), there is internet access but I do not have direct control of the router/firewall. So I can't open or forward a port. I briefly look at the VPN in XP pro. It looks like I need a fixed internet IP (which I'm not sure I would get; since the internet service is DSL, probably with DHCP). It also requires mod to firewall, which I have no control over. Is there an alternate solution? No need to walk me through a setup. Just point me to the right technology/software. It doesn't have to be VPN, that's just the first thing that comes into mind. The files are business-critical files, so hosting them on an outside server won't work because if the internet goes down, I still need to conduct my business at the main office.

  • This is merely an annoyance, but the dialog box for connecting a VPN connection occasionally pops up all by itself. I recently did a format/rebuild on this Windows XP Pro (SP3) computer and do not recall this happening prior to that. I figure it is some obscure option I need to set/reset. • D-Link DI-604 Router Question
  • Does the DI-604's DHCP server serve DNS as well as IP addresses ????? Under WinXP and Vista, for the last 3 years, I have had my 4 PC's set to obtain IP address and DNS address automatically under the TCP/IP settings and it's always worked until last week. Suddenly I had random lack of Internet access when I powered on my PC's. The only way to get it back was to power cycle the router before turning on my PC's. The Internet would work fine after this until I powered down a PC or rebooted a PC then that PC would loose Internet access. Since all this started I found that if I leave the obtain IP address set to automatic but put the routers address in the DNS address box everything works and my Internet connection always works. The DI-604's manual shows both set to obtain automatically in the illustrations but says nothing about it in the text. I've also reset the router to factory defaults several times but it makes no difference. I don't know if this router is starting to die or what........ Does the 604's DHCP server assign DNS as well as IP numbers ???? Thanks Brian

• Network Connections Display
  • I have a wireless home network with 2 computers and 2 wireless printers. All components are working fine. The main computer is cabled directly to the Linksys router. When I click on network connections I get the connections screen but nothing is displayed. The other computer displays the network connections correctly. I can access the router through the main computer with no problems. When I tried the network setup wizard I got a message saying could not locate the network hardware. I have no problem connecting to the internet from either computer. The problem occurred sometime after I replaced internet explorer 7 with 8. I am not sure what caused the problem because I didn't try to display the connections until sometime after the upgrade. -- Lloyd J Maddox

• Been Trying to Print on Network for 3 DAYS
  • Hey There, A friend of mine and I are setting up a network for a friend of ours who runs a small business. We cannot seem to get the printer working over the network in ANY situation. We are running windows server 2003, with the enabled roles of active directory, file sharing, DNS Server, and DHCP. Before we had done anything at all, we attached the printer to the server and shared it with the Printer Management role, and that worked. It worked very well. We were able to add each printer on each computer with \\servername\printername and it worked for printing documents from any computer. Then, after a day or so launched all the services, launched all the accounts, tweaked everything, and then attempted to print. Did not work. Here's what we've done since then. Tried deploying the printer and giving every user admin rights over it. Tried connecting the printer to a workstation and sharing it from there. Tried connecting the printer to an airport extreme to have it accessed through its static IP address. Tried adding the printer to a wireless print server to give it its own unique IP address. Tried adding it to the Belkin USB hub so that it had both an IP address AND a Mac address to add to our DHCP reservation lists, on a variety of routers. In any scenario, we get an array error messages. Printing a test page we get "Your Test Page Failed to Print. Would you like to view the printer troubleshooter for assistance?" We did, with no results. Printing a page with notepad we get "Invalid Handle" Printing with command prompt, we get NO error messages, but nothing prints. Please tell me that someone has a solution that I have not tried, I desperately need to get this printer working, because I DO NOT charge by the hour hahahaha.
• Redo Win XP Pro SP3 workgroup "share" access
  • I have a simple home network with usually 2 PCs (both with Windows XP Pro SP3 / IE8.) They are part of a standard workgroup (MSHOME.) This past week-end I finally was able to replace the defunct second PC (motherboard died) and I am re-connecting this new PC to the network. The problem is that this PC (PC-2) can not access my "main" PC (PC-1) "shared" folders but PC-1 can access PC-2 "shared" folders. What are the steps I need to do in order to check the correct settings and fix it so that either can access to work from either?

• Very bizarre internet access question
  • Router wired to 6 port hub. Toshiba laptop wired to hub running XP Pro SP2. Desktop wired into hub running XP Pro SP3. The Toshiba has internet access, the desktop does not! How bizarre is that and how do I go about diagnosing WHY the desktop does not have internet access? (The desktop can ping the router OK).

  • I have a wired network connected to my company intranet, and a wireless connecting to the internet. Right now, my wireless is set to be the default gateway for accesss to the internet. However, I would like my Outlook 2003 to connect to the my company Exchange server through the wired LAN, rather than through wireless using http, because the wireless is unstable. Some people said it is resolved by adding a persistent route. However, I am not very familiar with routing, and using a DHCP server in my wired LAN. • Diagnostic Policy Service - Access Denied
  • I am running Vista on a Dell and have connectivity to my wireless network, however, I am unable to connect to the network. When I try to run the diagnostic serivce it suggests, I get the following message: Windows could not start the Diagnostic Policy Service service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access is denied. Here is my setup, 3 XP Pro computers plus a Windows Home Server (WHS) running on a LAN with a Linksys BEFSR41 router. Let?s assume the internal address of one of my computers is 192.168.1.123. For this computer, I have the ?Remote Desktop? box checked in both Windows Firewall Exceptions and Advanced sections (TCP port 3389). I?m also port forwarding 3389 for address 192.168.1.123 in the Linksys router. Shouldn?t things now work from a remote location, what am I missing? I should also point out that I have no problems accessing my WHS server from a remote location. When I make a connection to this server I can view all my LAN computers. Thanks in advance

  • Hi, I wonder if anyone can point me to a good Network Setup or Help source? I've spent about 3 weeks Googling but never found anything that works! My Wizzards seem to be different to theirs, or instructions to "go to local area connection properties" fail because I don't know where they are. We've two computers running XP and connect to internet via a router. Both are MSHome. The system did work perfectly but I had to reinstall Windows and now can get it working. Thanks for any help.
• Better reception with a different card?
  • I have a dell laptop with their internal 1390 wireless g card. I'm in an office where free wireless is provided by the building, but it's a mid-strength signal that I sometimes loose. So I can't change router position or type or any of that because they provide it. It's G type. I already have the laptop in the best place for signal. I could get some external adapter, maybe one of the USB or slide in cards that has an extended antenna that can be pointed in the best direction. But if it would help I would rather replace the internal card with one that pulls better. I know an N card is better or MIMO is better but only if the router is doing the same? Right? So is getting a different kind of internal card (N, MIMO, or?) going to help any? I'm thinking not but not positive. Thanks
• proxy / connectivity problem?
  • I run Windows XP SP3 without any prblems except for three applications: 1. LivePerson (link to secure server doesn't work and redirects to the program file map of LivePerson on my C-drive; somewhere in the process appears an errorcode that points towards a proxy-problem) 2. Samsung PC-studio (no connectivity possible; error message "no pointer" when hovering over the connection button) 3. Google Adwords Editor (during installation a message appears that no update can be obtained from the server because of a proxy setting problem; the suggested link to solve this problem doesn't work; after installation no lilnk in the menu bar is operational: the shortcut letters (normally to be activated by Alt-underlined letter) are not underlined, but are shown in the code (f.i. H&elp), just like some database program do) Who can help me to get these programs working OK?
• Newbee VPN question
  • Seems like I was successful in making a VPN connection from my Windows XP Pro laptop to one of my LAN (XP Pro) desktops - at least it said a connection was made. What do I do next - I have no way to view files or folders on the "connected" desktop. What have I missed? Suggestions greatly appreciated.
• UNC using IP address
  • I am trying to access my file server over a VPN. I can access the file using a mapped drive (G:). If I try to connect to the server using the UNC path \\192.168.111.11\<share_name> I get an error saying the file can not be found. (The G drive is mapped to \\192.168.111.11\<share_name>). The problem is I can't use the mapped drive as I have some files hyperlinked in Word - which chnages the mapped driver to the UNC share name instead. I don't know why I can access them using the mapped drive, but not a UNC path. Any help / suggestions would be appreciated
• Multiple Gateways
  • Hi I have two Lans connected to my PC1 with ip addresses fo LAN1:192.168.8.4, it's gate way is 192.168.8.50,another Lan2:193.168.8. and gate way is 193.168.8.50.Both the Lan's were configured with sam HOST Name "MMI1" in Host File Simillarly i was having another PC2 which was connected to the sam network with two IP addresses of lan1:192.168.8.3, gateway i 192.168.8.50 and lan2: 193.168.8.3, gate way is 193.168.8.50.and Host Name was MMI2 My Problem was: I disconnected Lan1 of PC2 and started pinging the PC2 with host nam from PC1 it is displaying Request timed out. switover is not takin place to other lan and in Command Promt it is displaying the IP addres of LAN1 of PC2 showing request timed out. Can any one please help in the need how to switchover the gate way automatically when any one of the lans got failure. Thanking you. Govin
• Can you run 100 Kb and 1000 Kb on the same network?
  • I need to replace a faulty 10/100 Kb switch. Everything runs at 100 Kb at present but I have a 1000 Kb NAS and any future new PC will be 1000 Kb compatible. My network has 3 x 100 Kb switches at present and one needs replacing now. Is there any benefit if I buy a new 1000 Kb switch, which presumably will work better than the older style anyway. If any of the routes are 1000 Kb at each end is it possible to have both speeds running on the same network or will I only see a benefit if I change all the network adapters to faster speed.   • hey this is Annie, and I've been trying to connect my XP desktop to the internet through the Ethernet cable, while my another Vista desktop's plugging in another ethernet calbe to the same moderm! Even the XP desktop states that the LAN is connected somehow but i can't browse the internet using any web browser..! But my Vista desktop could use the internet by connecting in that way.. I am confused and wonder is there something wrong with the networking setting in my XP or is this totally not gonna work for two computers connecting to the same moderm ? i am really confused and hope someone could help....btw, i did turn off the morderm and tried to plug the cable in again,but problem still exists.

• Problem with Ras Async Adapter
  • Hi, Under the device manager, there is an exclamation icon beside the Ras Async Adapter. And I also find out that when I try to create a dial up connection manual in the connections wizard, the dial up option is being disabled (grey off). Currently I am using Windows XP Pro SP3. Windows update had been done but the problem still exist. Please advice.
• IE7 and Flash Player
  • I use IE7 and I am unable to access videos or streams from websites. Is there any way to fix this problem. I go to mmo-champion.com and they have videos on their page that i can access. All i see is a blank spot.
• Strange network connection issue
  • This is on an Acer laptop and is the only device on the network with a problem connecting. When I attempt to map a drive (net use) I get "System Error 53 has occurred". If I attempt to connect from the run box using the UNC OR IP I get "The network path was not found". Now the strange part: I can ping IP or UNC just fine. I have Repaired Windows from a cd, reinstalled SP3, IE7 and made sure I had the latest Realtek drivers for the nic. Any suggestions besides a clean install?

  • My internet was working fine this am and now I cannot get on. I ran a full scan and nothing has worked. When I click on Internet Explorer, I get two pops up: 1. iexplore.exe-Application Error - It says: The instruction at "0x08ab0451" referenced memory at "0x08ab0451." The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program and click on cancel to debug the program. 2. Data Executive Prevention - Microsoft Windows - It says: To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this program. • new DSL, exception processing message
  • I just installed DSl from Quest and keep getting an exception processing message , C0000013 parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c and it wants the CD inserted. I've tried running through the CD again but I still get the message. It ask to Retry, Cancel, or Continue. Any of them gets rid of the window, but in a while its back. Any ideas how to resolve the problem?
• Remote Desktop over wireless
  • I have a 2003 server with approx 20 machines attached to the domain. I have a laptop that is connected to the same domain but wirelessley through an access point. If i try to remote desktop to the server from the wireless laptop it sits for a while and then fails. If i attach the same laptop to the network via a cable the remote desktop works fine. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks
• why does router require reboot.
  • I have had a wired network for some years, no problem, always on, so when the router packed up recently I decided to go wireless with the laptop and everything is OK except that every time I switch any PC on I have to reboot the router to get an internet connection,I dont need to reboot the modem or PC just the router, I have tried disabling all security apps, this did not used to be the case so have I set something wrong on the new router. Using Netgear WGR614 v9, XP Home all up to date including firmware.

• Workgroup network -- I want to bypass the "Enter Network Password" dialog.
  • How can I make my workgroup network connect up automatically when I start a computer without having to enter a password every time? My three computers run XP-Pro, XP-Home, and 98SE. Before I upgraded the XP-Pro from SP2 to SP3, my three computers could connect by workgroup. After I upgraded XP-Pro from SP2 to SP3, the XP-Pro can connect to files on the other two PCs as before. But when XP-Home and 98SE try to connect to the XP-Pro they get a dialog box saying: "Enter Network Password". How can I bypass/eliminate that dialog? Stan Hilliard
• Wireless Network Connection
  • I have an Acer Aspire 1690 laptop with Windows XP. To get my BT wireless connection to the internet I have to click Start>Connect to>Show all connections>Right click Wireless Network Connection>Right click Properties>Wireless Networks>Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings>highlight my network>OK, and connection is then made. However when I first start my computer and go through the above procedure to the Right click Properties stage the Wireless Networks tab is not available (only General and Advanced tabs). When I then restart the computer and go through the procedure the Wireless Networks tab is available and I can make my connection. Frustrating and a waste of time. Any suggestions, please? -- Herbert
• IE8 not opening hyperlinks
  • I have upgraded my pc, and several others from IE6/7 to IE8. I am now having several issues with opening hyperlinks in outlook. I click on a link, and IE8 opens two windows, one is a blank screen, and the other is the homepage. The blank one is just a white page, nothing loading and nothing in the title bar. All pcs are windows xp, on a domain. I am an admin on my pc, and have checked ie is the default program, reinstalled, tried the registry edit which changes a line from %1 to -nohome, which doesnt work, and just goes back to the original after a reboot. Also tried a registry import from a known working xp pc. Im now stuck and looking for help, so if anyone could provide a solution it will be appreciated. Thanks
• Network Shuts down before copying profile back to server
  • I have a Windows XP SP3 machine that will not copy it's profile back to the 2003 SBS server, because the network stops before it starts to copy. This is during a shut down. I have found nothing on the web at all. Has anyone come across this before, as it's driving me nuts trying to figure out why? Thanks

  • Occasionally I connect to Internet through (broadband) modem, in detail by clicking on the menu Start->Settings->Network Connection->MyProvider A popup dialog appears with the dial number and a button "Dial". It is annoying that I have to click again something (in this case the button "Dial"). Can I let WinXP automatically dial-in when ever I click the menu Start->Settings->Network Connection->MyProvider without being forced to click a button in an intermediate step ? Is there a way to call the modem dial-in from batch script/command line? Camille
