- IE6 Incomplete Download Issue
-
Hi,
I am trying to download a file using IE6 (XP SP1) and IE7 (XP, SP2) but the
file is not downloaded completely in a 'unique' scenario. When the Open/Save
dialog box pops up on my browser and I open/save the file immediately, the
complete file is downloaded. However, if I wait for 1 minute from the time
the open/save dialog box pops up and then open/save the file, the file is not
downloaded completely. The file is streamed from the server side (my own
application does that) using the servletoutputstream.
When I try the same thing using Mozilla Firefox, I am able to download the
complete file regardless of the time between the opening of the open/save
dialog box and the time when I open/save it. This implies that this is a
Browser/OS specific issue.
Please help me understand what is happening here.
Thanks,
Raj

- Playing streaming video

Hello,
I have noticed that it is impossible to re-play the streaming
video when the Internet connection is lost.
Why it is so?
After playing for the first time it is possible to see "buffering" at the
start of the play and sometimes during the play when the connection is slow,
which is quite normal.
Why, when replaying the same there is still "buffering" visible at the start
but it never is being shown again during the replay?

- IE7 and IE8 do not close properly
-
First, I realize this newsgroup is named IE6, but I felt this was the best
fit for my situation. If not, please let me know which newsgroup I should
repost.
My client is running WinXPP SP3. He is connected to the internet with a
Linksys wireless NIC.
Originally, he was running IE8. When starting in the morning, all is fine.
System response time is normal. However, after opening IE8 and then closing
it again, an instance of "iexplore.exe" can still be found in the processes
tab in the task manager. Further, it is utilizing 50% of the CPU resources.
When the user opens IE8 again, an additional "iexplore.exe" instance is
listed in the processes table. It is also utilizing 50% of the CPU
resources. So very quickly, his system becomes bogged down and unusable as
the number of iexplore.exe instances increase. Closing IE8 made no
difference. I was able to manually end the processes.
When I uninstalled IE8 and he had only IE7, the same problem existed.
I didn't strip out the add-ins, plug-ins and tool bars the user had
installed. Perhaps that should be my next step. I would appreciate your
suggestions on how to troubleshoot this problem.

- QFE vs. GDR Builds?
-
Our developers are experiencing issues with like builds of IE6. They haven't
elaborated on the issue, but would like to know if there is a difference
between:
sp2-gdr.090206-1233 (installed in our virtual machines)
sp2-qfe.090206-1239 (installed on our physical pc's)
In "system information," both builds display as 62900.2180.
Can someone tell me if there would be a difference between these 2 builds?
They should be at the same patch level as they both pull from the same WSUS.
Thanks!

- IE doesn't work for other users
-
I have a user who is running IE6. Works fine for her. If any other user
logs in though, the program is not even there. I can even look in
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and cannot find the iexplore.exe file.
If another user clicks the IE icon it just opens the properties window for
IE.
Even I, who has admin rights to the machine have the same problem. I have
even copied the iexplore.exe file to the root of the C: drive logged in as
this user, logged out, logged in as myself, and the file is NOT on the
root of C:
I have enabled viewing all hidden files on this computer as well.
I then logged in as this user, upgraded to IE8, and rebooted, and still,
the problem still exists.
What the heck is happening here?

- Installing IE 8
-
I want to know if it will be an advantage to download IE 8?
I am 81 and a bit wary of trying to installing IE 8 as I cannot get any
local help if things go wrong. I don't know too much about these things.
As far as I can remember I installed Windows XP SP3 on my computer after I
installed Internet Explorer 7.
Does this mean that I have to uninstall Windows XP Service Pack 3 before I
can uninstall Internet Explorer 7?.
I think I tried to uninstall Windows XP3 some time back but was told it
would be hard to accomplish successfully so I stuck with XP3..
If I get XP3 uninstalled safely, should I save the IE 8 download before I
install IE 8?
If I do not do this then how do I get to the download site?

errors which force the IE brower to close and "runtime library" errors.
I checked the following but the users had these options checked already:
-Within IE, go to Tools, then Internet Options, then the Advanced tab
Turn on Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer) and Disable Script
Debugging (Other)
Turn off Display a notification about every script error
I also did this, but they already had the right things checked/unchecked:
-Within IE, go to Tools, then Internet Options, then the Advanced tab
Turn on Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer) and Disable Script
Debugging (Other)
Turn off Display a notification about every script error
Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks

- IE6 ZoneMap & FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN
-
Good Afternoon Group,
I have a 2003 Server SP1 with IE6. This server is configured as a terminal
server. There is a need for the security settings to be adjusted to get an
application that works with InternetExplorer. I need to enable the 'Allow
active content to run in files on My Computer' (Options/Advanced/Security).
Internet Explorer Enhanced Security is installed. Through the registry I
have enabled the Security_HKLM_only
(HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings)
option so IE will get its setting from HKLM. To achieve the enabling of
'Allow active content to run in files on My Computer' I have edited
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\Feature\FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN\iexplore.exe=0. What I
am seeing is that this registry setting does not place a check mark next to
the 'Allow active content to run in files on My Computer' setting within IE.
Is there some other setting I need to do to get this working ?
Cheers
John
