  • IE8 tool bar color
    • Just installed IE8 install went without a hitch. But All the IE8 toolbar backgrounds are black and it is not possible to see the menu headings. They are there and if i click on where the headings would be the menu will appear. But its like working blind. Is there a way to change the background color? Desktop properties is set for BLUE background and all other window toolbar backgrounds do appear in blue. Thanks Joe Calderone Don't Force it, Use a bigger Hammer.

  • Problem with "loading" in Yahoo Mail; cannot reply -- IE6 related?
    • On one computer, we cannot send or reply to Yahoo mail. It gets stuck in "LOADING..." for a while, then seems to stop and return to reply window. Since this happens on only one computer, I presume the problem is not at Yahoo's end or with the Yahoo account. I think it is also unlike that a virus is involved -- but I'll run a scan. Also, the problem happens with different users on the same computer. So I presume the problem is not with user settings; instead, it is something more global (registry; IE6 itself; something else entirely). Does anyone have any idea what I might do to remedy this? I would like to avoid reinstalling IE6, especially since I don't know for sure that's the root cause. I would like to avoid installing a different browser, the first "solution" proposed by the IE6-bashers. Of course, they recommend installing their favorite browser. I have already tried the obvious -- delete history, cookies and files -- to no avail.

  • Internet Explorer launches stealthily
    • Running XP Pro as my OS, and I use Firefox as my default browser. In the last day or so, out of the blue, even if I'm not doing anything on my machine at that moment, I'll get a dialog box telling me that "Internet Explorer is not my default browser and do I wish to set it as my default browser". I clicked the box to "not check if IE is the default browser". Then I start getting audio coming through my speakers (like the audio associated w/ some websites). I checked my running processes and noticed that IE was running, but there is NO IE window open. It's pretty clear to me that "something" (be it virus or whatever) is launching IE on it's own but my virus software (McAfee) isn't detecting it. Can someone help? I'm steering way clear of any of my financial websites until I figure this out. Thanks. Robert

  • Can't make 2003 Outlook work ?
    • I've been using OE and had too many problems. I haven't used Outlook in quite a while and when I brought it up I got this message. The data file 'Personal Folders' was not closed properly. This file is being checked for problems. Each time I try it, it spends several minutes checking and then locks up. I kill it thru Task Mgr and an error message is sent. Then it'll start in the Safe Mode and same thing all over. What do I need to do to get it fixed? Thanks Hank

  • Zone Alarm prevents access to browser
    • I am using the latest version of Zone Alarm, 8.0 and Windows XP. Today a problem came up whereby I could not access either Internet Explorer or Firefox. I discovered the cause to be Zone Alarm. When I shut it down, I was able to access the browser. Strangely enough, once having accessed the browser, I could restart Zone Alarm and everything worked normally.

  • IE 7 not able to open Internet Site (Hotmail Inbox)
    • For over a week now I've been getting the following error message: "INternet Explorer can not open the Internet site http://lbl148wblu148.mail.live.com/mail/InBoxLight.aspx?n=1845724582. Operation aborted". When I click ok, it get the IE error page. The numbers after the equal sign changes every time I get the message. I can sign into hotmail with no problem, it is while the items are downloading in the hotmail inbox that I get the error message. Down in the lower left corner where it says "waiting for site...." or "downloading..." I'll get those message and then it stops and I get the operation aborted message. It appears to me that the ad on the right side of the site is what is causing the problem, because everything is there, except the ad. I optimized my browser, down loaded new IE 7 Upgrades, nothing has worked. Windows Live help referred me to here. What do I have to do to get this fixed? It has been over a week now. I have IE version 7.0.5730.13, using Windows XP Ver. 5.1.

  • IE hold ups when opened from OE or O
    • Experiencing hold ups and shut down hangs when IE is opened from within OE or O. In Outlook the result is that a version of IE remains in programmes in Process Explorer after it has been supposedly shut down - presumably shutting the version that opens as a service from within O leaves the other one incompletely shut down. This is accompanied by a 'closing programme autocomplete' message that prevents shutdown, when O has been used as the mail handler. When OE is used as the mail handler IE still opens as a service, rather than the programme itself, from links in mails. The 'service IE' tends to search for ages, or even hang over the links. However, if the programme IE itself is opened first, they go through OK - though the service version still runs. I have noted the mail on a similar topic below, and had a look at the files/open with. In our case (XP Pro) the URL file type was set to open with "Shell Doc Object & Control Library" (?) However, resetting this to IE still opens it as a service and it still takes ages. What is going on? Cheers, S

  • No sound through speakers on Internet - But other programs Yes.
    • Hi, Okay do I'm stumped. I have a user who cannot hear audio on the internet. she has audio when on itunes or windows media... it's only on the net. So it has to be browser settings or adobe flash player. I searched everywhere in internet settings, reset settings. looked in control panel - sounds audio devices. installed a new verion of adobe flash. No matter what I did nothing brings the sound back onthe internet. I am ytring to avoid uninstalling/reinstalling IE. Hopefully there's a hidden or not so obvious place to toggle sound online. Maybe a place in registry to see if avalue got messed up. Thanks Matt

  • Access to resource has been disallowed
    • Some of our users have been getting the "Access to resource 'xyz' has been disallowed" error message when they type in just 'xyz' in the address bar of IE without the http. If they type in "http://xyz" instead, the URL is parsed correctly without any problems. I looked through the Microsoft Knowledge Base and the only tech note that discusses a similar error message doesn't seem to apply in our case. (We're running IE 6.0.2900.2180 on Win XP Professional.) Our users cannot change their settings in IE, so it's odd that some users see this problem and some don't. We've been unable to consistently reproduce this problem across all our users' machines. Any ideas as to why we might be seeing this problem?

  • IE6 Locks Up When Logging Onto Some Sites....
    • When I log onto SOME sites that require me to enter a login ID and password, after I enter in my password and press the key marked Login or Next or whatever it is that completes the login, IE6 often freezes up completely and I have to use task manager to shut it down. What's annoying about it (in addition to this one problem) is that it does not happen all the time on all sites. So if I'm having this problem on one site, hours later it might not happen at all. I've checked my security, advanced options all to no avail. I've had my administrator take a look and he's stumped (and says he "looking into a solution" but it's been weeks). It's getting to the point where I simply avoid logging into sites while at work and waiting until I get home. But there are sites here at work where I need to login and this is happening here as well. I've never had this issue happen.

  • Windows Logon Problem
    • Every so often, my browser stops remembering my sign in info. It usually happens only when messenger (windows) is not signed it. When it happens and I try to go to hotmail, live, or any normally signed in address, I get a page cannot be displayed. I have to go to live's login page directly to get the browser back on track. When I do sign in, I select remember e-mail and password every time. It somehow forgets it I guess from time to time. I'm on an old machine, that I managed to get xp home on. Because of memory, I didn't put any updates on it (they slow thing way down), and I upgraded to windows messenger 5.0 something. Running IE6. Just thought it might be some kind of security setting or something.

  • Re: IE does not go on the web-page whose address is pasted in
    • Dear Robear, thank you! <<Your post's headers tell us that you're running WinXP SP2 right now.>> - That's right. I've seen "WinXP SP2" after the WinXP Repair Install. <<What is the exact (verbatim) error message you're getting?>> - I'm getting no error messages. I just see the failed work of IE, and I described these errors in my previous e-mail. <<What problems were you having that you thought a Repair Install might resolve?>> - I had problems with graphics and I had corrected them. There was the ATI CCC card in the Accelerated Graphics Port, which I removed from my computer. To correct registry settings for VGA Controller SiS650 I should make WinXP Repair Install. <<What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current?>> - The avast anti-virus application is installed on my computer. <<What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?>> - Malwarebytes' Anty-Malware. <<What third-party firewall (if any)?>> No, only Windows Firewall. <<Were any of these applications running in the background when you installed the post-Repair Install updates?>> - No. All post-Repair updates were installed when I turn off my computer. I think there are no running applications in the background in this moment. • IE8 and Alt tags for Images
    • I have several websites that were built using Front Page 2003, for example http://www.oradour.info and all the images have 'Alt' tags set to give additional information. When I view the site using IE8, the Alt Tag text does not display, when I press the Compatibility View button, the text displays correctly. I would not have thought that there should be any compatibility issues here and that the Alt Tag text should show normally, am I missing something? Any advice welcomed, or even suggestions as to where to ask the question ............. Michael

  • Blank pages especially on search results
    • Hello all, I have a problem with IE 6 and IE 7 after it was installed. The machine in question is a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop running Win XP Home with 1 GB of memory. We have 7 of these laptops in the field and so far this is the only one gining problems. When I go to a search engine Yahoo or Google and enter a search say for AVG free and click search the only thing displayed is a blank screen with "Done" at the bottom. I can leave it set on the page for ever and nothing happens I try and refresh and the same thing comes up. At times IE will not advance to a given web page, regardless of what it is. One of the things I did notice when I began working on the laptop was the user had set up a "MYYAHOO" page and this was the home page. From there I could get no where. If I stopped (click on the red X) before the web page loaded I could then go some where else. I changed the home page to "MSN". I have reset all the settings in IE6/7 to no avail still acting up as before. I have run Antivirus (AVG) and found 82 possible problems. cleaned them and still found many so I reloaded/repaired Win XP from the vendor supplied disk. got rid of the "possible problem files" but still have the problem with IE6/7. Any ideas? Only thing I can think of now is to clean the drive and reload OS and IE7. Thanks in advnace for your assistance.

Message never appears in "sent" box which is an issue as I keep my confirmations. • Adobe Acrobat causes problems with IE6
    • I recently purchased Adobe CS3 Web Premium and installed the entire suite on a PC running Windows XP Pro SP3 and Internet Explorer 6.0. Everything installed with no problems and seemed to run fine, but a weird problem immediately developed in IE6. IE6 would start and run great (i.e., very fast) until I clicked on either the Favorites or History toolbar buttons. Then IE6 would "hang" for several minutes until the Favorites (or History)finally appeared in the left pane. [Note: Windows Task Manager showed little or no CPU activity while the computer was "hung".] After the Favorites were finally retrieved, another problem became evident: IE6 slowed to a crawl and showed frequent high CPU activity. I have a very high speed cable modem and normally IE6 runs very fast. I uninstalled the Adobe CS3 suite and reinstalled IE6 using the "%systemroot%\inf" method. I also ran the System File Checker ("sfc /scannow") to make sure no files were damaged. After rebooting, the IE6 problems disappeared. IE6 ran as fast as ever. Then I reinstalled Acrobat 8 Pro only (not the whole CS3 suite) and the same identical IE6 problems reappeared! Here's the weird part: if I click on Favorites in the main "menu bar" of IE6, they instantly appear in a drop-down window and IE6 continues to run fast. However, if I click on the Favorites "toolbar button", all the problems described above come back. I have found that simply reinstalling IE6 fixes the problem -- until I accidentally click on the Favorites toolbar button again. (Note to myself: Until this is fixed, delete the Favorites button from the toolbar and access them from the menu bar.) Does anyone know what causes this problem and how to fix it?

  • IE Setting Causing Destination Host Unreachable???
    • Hi all, I have a PC running IE 6.0 trying to access an HTTPS site and the user is getting "Destination Host Unreachable" in the title bar and a blank web page, even though the status for loading the page is showing "Done". If the user runs a tracert to the site, it works fine and I can see all expected hops to the destination server. Access to this site used to work before we switched it to HTTPS. Networking team has confirmed no firewall blocking. I'm suspecting an IE setting is causing this. I've googled this but can't find any info. Hoping someone out there has some suggestions to look at. Thx

    • Environment: Windows Server 2003, SP2; IE 6, SP2; MS Office 2003 and 'Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office' I'm using Internet Explorer 6, SP2 to access documents (created with MS Office 2003) on a temporary share all right. However, there is a problem when I try to access MS Office 2007 documents on the same share (i.e. IE does not recognize them; thinks it is a zip file ...). Note: I did install the 'Compatibility Pack for the 2007 Office' and this works fine with WINDOWS EXPLORER (i.e. Windows Explorer can read the MS Office 2007 documents all right). QUESTION: How to get the IS 6, SP2 (on WIndows Server 2003, with MS Office 2003) to read the MS Office 2007 documents (just like the Windows Explorer) ? TIA

  • Error Message when starting IE 8
    • I am not sure how this started, but for the past couple of weeks, whenever I start Internet Explorer 8, I get a message that says: "A program on your computer has corrupted your default search provider setting for Internet Explorer. Internet Explorer has reset tis setting to your original search provider, Live Search (search.live.com). Internet Explorer will now open Search Settings, where you cna changethis setting or install more search providers." I then press OK, and I see a table containing Google and Live Search. It shows Live Search as default. I do nothing but press Close, and go on with my work. How can I stop this message from popping up? Thanks!!!!!!!!

  • stop security certificate error alert
    • In IE 6, how do I stop the alert that says: "Information you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by others. However, there is a problem with the site's security certificate." It indicates that the problem is that "The security certificate has expired or is not yet valid." I get this message everytime I try to use various trusted sites. There must be some way that I can get the system to accept sites that I know to be OK. Thank you.
