- Home page hijacked by MS!
-
Greetings all...
I posted this (incorrectly) in the XP group and got a few tips, but
nothing's working.
Here's the deal...
Two days ago, out of the blue, my IE6 home page was hijacked by an ad page
to download MS IE8. No matter what I do to change back to my home page, this
annoying page for IE8 comes up. As I watch the address bar, it quickly shows
something that says "microsoft...redirect.dll...blah blah blah" and then
finishes up with this IE8 propaganda.
I have XP with SP3.
I run anti-virus daily (and it shows nothing)
and I just ran Spybot and it says my system is clean.
Any ideas? It's not a big deal...I made a new icon for my desktop with my
preferred homepage so I can click on that instead of the IE icon...it's just
something that's irritating me....ok....so I'm crabby....I'm unemployed now
for 2 months and little things are beginning to tick me off.
ok...I'm done....thanks for any help.

I use MS Outlook7 for my e-mail. When I click on any link in my e-mail, the

desperate to open a link, I have to right click on the link and "view
source." Then I have to wade through all the Greek, hopefully find the url I
need, and then cut and paste it into a browser. Please help!!

- Can't Run With The RunTime Errors!
-
I been having a problem running IE5 after just installing it with the
Win2k operating system. I also had the same problem when I was
running IE6 before: I would keep getting an error message about some
kind of "run time" problem about every five to ten seconds. Things
would run okay for a few moments, then the same or a slightly
different error message. This could go on for quie a while before
either things became stable or the computer crashed . Ithought re-
installing the OS would make things better but it may have made the
problem worse.
I am running IE on an old 166 MHz box that's slow and sluggish, but
otherwise works well as long as I don't try getting on the internet
with Internet Explorer; curiously, I don't have much of the problem
when using a browser like Opera. Does anyone have any ideas why this
run time error message keeps popping up, or have any suggestions for
stoppping it?

- Internet Explorer 6 - MSXML4.dll
-
Hi,
I have an issue with IE6, I have MSXML3.dll loaded as an add-in.
I have downloaded the MSXML4.msi SP2 from technet and this has created the
MSXML4.dll(s) in C:\Windows\System32
I have ran regsvr32 MSXML4.dll and the .dll was registered succesfully,
however I cannot see this as an add-in for IE6. I have also downloaded the
MSXML 6.0 and this is exactly the same - I can register the .dll's but they
do not show up in IE6 add-ins.
How do I load the ActiveX component into the browser.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

- Switching computers
-
This question must be asked a thousand times daily but I can't seem to find
any help with it.
I am changing computers and would like to take my old email account with all
the addresses and messages to the new PC. I have entered all the details as
requested in the 'set up' series of windows but still no messages appear in
my in/read boxes from the old computer. How do I gain access to them from the
new PC?
As for addresses I have downloaded them to a CD for transfer but the new PC
won't load them into the new address book.
Thanks in advance

- Connexion problem - error 12029
-
Greetings,
I'm using WinXP Pro SP3, automatic updates enabled. Since a couple of days,
IE7 is no longer able to connect to anything, including Windows Update or
even our intranet - which excludes a DNS problem, because I enter directly
the IP address of the machine one floor below. I use Windows built-in
firewall, but even turning it off does not help. My internet connexion (via
University LAN) works well, I can use other browsers without any problem,
email, FTP... everything. Only IE refuses to work, and this means all the
updates passing through IE are stopped.
At first I thougth the culprit could be spybot, but turning off spybot addon
did not solve either. I use F-Secure antivirus, but it had never interfered
with IE. I have Windows Defender on
The connexion panel under Tools > Internet Options > Connexions > LAN
parameters has all the checkboxes cleared. Checking the "automatic
configuration" does not help. I also tried the "reinitalise" buttons under
the "Advanced" tab, no result! The proxy box is clear.
I have only one LAN card, no wireless.
I did a search on the net for similar problems, but all I found was related
either to a firewall or to the proxy box in the "connexion" tab being
checked. I'm clueless, can somebody help?
Thanks so much in advance.

- Stumped - Attached URL broken on *some* machines
-
Very wierd, the following url has no attachment, but it is a link to a word
document.
http://www.academicimpressions.com/speakers/conference_assignment
it doesn't open when you link to it in ie6 on our machines, but if you
append a .doc to the url it opens fine. Without the .doc, IE knows it's a
word document, then asks to open or save it, then says unable to connect to
web site, difficulty etc. It works on ie7 machines, looks like the file is
embeded in IE when it works.
IUs it a mime issue, security zone issue? I added the site to trusted sites
and it still doesn't work. How can I change the default mime settings for
IE6 on XP SP3?

- IE 6 is reporing an internal website in the Internet Zone
-
I've got two computers that are behvaing oddly. On our intranet, we have
various reports. Two computers, when they follow the link to the report get
"Page cannot be displayed".
What is more bizzare, is the zone is reported as being Internet, when it
clearly is in the INTRANET.
I've manually added it to Trusted, no difference. I even manually entered
it into the intranet zone. No difference. Has anyone seen this type of
behaviour?

- Auto refreshing web page pops inactive window to the front
-
I'm having a strange problem. I work in network control center environment
where we use IE6 to access monitoring tools. One of these tools is a logging
webpage that allows controllers to log actions. This page is set to
auto-refresh every 30 seconds. In most cases this refreshing happens with no
problems, but on a few (identical boxes, software setup, etc.) , when the
page auto-refreshes, it causes that instance of IE6 to pop to the front and
make it the active window. It only happens if the window is open in the
background, not if the window is minimized. I have scoured the settings but
cannot find anything that is causing this. Do you have any ideas?

- IE automation question
-
I am driving IE from an external vbscript (cscript xxx.vbs). I can
make IE do everything that I want, but it isn't neat and it's probably
non standard. What I want to do is get some input from the user,
process the input, change a few values in IE and trigger a function to
set up for more input (IFAIK it can't be done by dynamic HTML - IE is
driving Google Maps and needs to make a few calls). [and no the code
can't all be embedded in IE as it also uses WSH functions]
in IE I define a hidden field (used for signalling both ways)
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" ID="OK" NAME="OK" VALUE="0" OnClick="dosomething
()">
To get IE to talk to the vbs, the vbs spins:
----
do while ie.document.findelementbyID("OK").value=0
sleep 200
loop
----
and IE sets OK to something other than zero to show the user has
completed input
To get vbs to talk to IE
In vbs
----
' Signal we made a change
set elem=objIE.document.getElementById("OK")
elem.click
----
What worries me is I don't think the use of onclick on a hidden field
is supported by the DOM. Ideally, there would be a way for vbs to
discover the function dosomething() and call it directly but I don't
know how. The available documentation on the web is huge, obscure and
uninformative [well, to me who started using vbscript 3 months ago and
just started on jscript]. Is there a more elegant and/or more
standard way?

Have been driving myself nuts with this Stupid Adobe flash problem in the
64bit version of Vista. I have read EVERY post I can find, have chatted with
a microsoft person, and yet NOONE has been able to tell me how to work around

From what I have been able to find, it deals with a non 64 bit of the Flash
player plugin not being. And then the mentions of if you use the 32 bit
version it works. Well, WHERE in the heck is it, I search for Internet

default to a 32 bit browser????
Am I missing something????
How do you setup a 32 bit version of IE on Vista 64bit, Please post link or

-
I have IE6 on an XP SP3 machine.
What might cause some few web pages to display improperly (i.e. some of the
first items on the page are displayed in a wide band across the screen,

These pages display perfectly normally on other PCs, with no need to scroll
in order to see the entire page.
This effect is not consistent with all web pages, but only seems to affect a
few web pages.
