  • Use of bcc for group emails
    • I have just taken over as unpaid secretary of a golf club and do most of my work using my home PC. I have distribution list of all members emails (approx 300) but do not wish them all to be displayed to all recipients. I am aware of the use of bcc to hide other addressees; however, I am told that including too many addressees in the bcc list causes problems with either ISPs or Spam filters. Is this true? If so can anyone suggest a work around. Thank you

  • emailing pictures
    • Hello When you right click on a picture to email it, you are asked if you want Windows to reduce it's size which I usually want to do. If you want to email several pictures, it's easy if they are in the same folder. If they are in separate folders, how do you downsize them all? Thanks

  • Reinstalling Outlook Express
    • I am having problems with Outlook Express 6.0 opening/running very slowly (over one minute to load) and wonder if I uninstall Internet Explorer 7.0 and then reinstall it, will I also get a clean install of Outlook Express? As I said, I am currently running IE 7.0, OE 6.0, and Windows XP Home Edition with SP3. I have exhausted all other options I know of running Defrag, eliminating unneeded startup programs, etc. -- Don

  • OE6 troubles - can not open a simple .pdf attachment
    • Hello all.. after having some difficulties a month ago and having to reset IE7 back to original setup....and then installing Acrobat 9.3....my .pdf's as email attachments in OE6 will no longer open, tho I can save to the desktop and they open up fine using the new Acrobat 9.3 when I do just try to open up the attachment, I get a modal window that simply states the same "this file does not have a program assoc...." etc and go to Folder Options to set that up. Been there and done that like 5 times and STILL can not just open up a .pdf attachment. googled for same and have re reg'd all the various .dlls needed, except for some reason the mshtml.dll gives me this error "mshtml.dll was loaded but the dll register server entry point was not found. This file cannot be registered." so can someone offer why that might be and how do I now fix that? Jim XPPro/SP3 and completely updated all the time; OE6 too...

    • Trying to help a friend. Running OE6. From shortcut on desktop (Win XP) she gets to her Inbox, but the screen does not show Create, etc. It says File, Edit, View, Tools, Message and Help. There is no Send and Receive, and no Address Book. I think she has to have the OE Toolbar checked but how to get to it. Thanks Roger B -- Roger

  • Outlook Express6 Font and Encoding Questions
    • Can somebody please explain to me what all the font and encoding options in WinXP SP3/IE 7/OEx 6 do? I know how to set these options, but I am not really sure what all the various options do. For example: What are the encoding options supposed to do? What is the difference between Western European ISO, Western Europe Windows, UTF-7, UTF-8, User defined, and how do those affect what is typed or read? What are the best settings for newsreaders and for email, or at least what is "standard", both text and HTML? I keep getting strange characters showing up in emails I receive, both news messages and mail messages, such as the one below: Â I have no idea what that character is supposed to be, and others also appear from time to time. Is this due to my email settings, my encoding, or due to the sender's setup, or even due to the ISP or some such? Is that character some kind of punctuation or what? I currently have my options set for W. Euro ISO encoding, using Incised901 Bd BT for proportional font, Lucida Console for fixed font, mail setting HTML quoted printables, News sending format plain text, MIME, encoding none, news compose Lucida Console 10 pt, mail compose Incised901 Bd BT 10 pt. Is that good, bad, or indifferent? Is there any MSKB info on all this stuff? The OEx Help files tell you HOW to set the options, but it really does not explain what the options do -- Pete B

  • A problem in OE 6 - can't import messages anymore
    • My system C drive on my main machine failed the other day with a refusal to even have any OS recognized. So I replaced it, and restored an image from True Image from the recent past. Apparently there was some small corruptions in that image. And I have a strange situation in Outlook Express 6. All works well, except for when I click on FILE>IMPORT>MESSAGES to import some dbx files from the past, or another machine running OE6. I have these DBX files stored in a folder on my main machine, and the import has always worked very nicely. But now, when the import screen comes up, it is totally blank - nothing in it. I know a work around to do the import. But I'd prefer it it worked normally. I can create a new folder in LOCAL FOLDERS, and name it to what I'd like. Then I can go into my DBX archive folder, pick a DBX file, and rename it to what I just created in my OE. Then replace the new blank folder with the folder from the archive, by just overwriting it. That does work - I tried it, and it still does work OK. I clicked on FILE>IMPORT>ADDRESS BOOK, and a "good:|" window did show there. Does anyone know how to "repair" OE6? I am running IE8, so some of the suggestions I've seen won't work, as they imply that OE is part of IE, and I don't want to mess with OE8. Ron Hirsch

    • I setup OE for charter email. pop.charter.net smtp.charter.net Email worked fine for two days, then I had the following symptom. I could not send email, I found that I had an email trapped in the outbox that would not send. I deleted the email in the outbox, and I received email as normal. Webmail works fine. Charter doesn't support OE. They won't help. I found the following pdf that has, "directions to setup an SMTP authentication in your emal program" It uses >mail.cs-1.com< for incoming mail and >smtp.charter.net< for outgoing mail. Then you must check the box for "My server requires Authentication" Also you must check another box in the outgoing mail server window. "use same settings as my incoming mail server" I would like some input about the information before I try it. Thanks, Mike

  • Outlook Express Dictionary
    • I had to restore my computer to the original configuration, format and reload. Everything is working great except the dictionary in OE6. It does not recognize any word. When I do a spell check, it highlights every word, even those that are spelled correctly. Is there an easy fix for this?

    • When I did a search of emails for "invitation" the search did not find all such emails. I tried again, and same results. Why did the OE search function fail to find emails with the word "invitation" included in the subject? So is the search function typically unreliable? Jack
