- Storing messages in a network drive folder
-
I have a laptop and a stationary PC. Laptop runs Vista, Stationary runs XP.
Laptop uses Windows Mail, Stationary runs OE6.
I'd like the two computers to store e-mails in a folder on a common network
drive so that i can choose freely which computer i want to use and still have
access to all my e-mails - sent and recieved - regardless of which computer
originally recieved or sent them.
I have tried to set them up using Files > Settings > Maintenance > Change
storage folder (sorry, but my computers speak Danish, so these names may not
be quite accurate compared to the English versions of the programmes - but
i'm sure you know what i'm getting at), and i can see the network drive i
want to use, but neither Win Mail nor OE6 allows me to access it.
If this can't be done - would it be possible to do if i used the full
version of Outlook (not Express) on both machines instead?
Thanx
Arne

- How to set OE6 as the default mail client
-
My friend has installed a compression program which allows him to select
several photos, right-click, select the function to make it a compressed ZIP
file and turn it into an email attachment.
However, the program would invoke Outlook instead of Outlook Express. How do
we make OE6 be the default mail client without uninstalling Microsoft
Office?

- Archieve Question
-
When I archive, the process always gets to the same folder, stop, and show
the following: "This folder is currently in use by Outlook Express or by
another application." This when absolutely nothing is running other than
what may be running in the background.
I normally start the archive and since it takes a few minutes, walk away.
When I return, assuming the process will be done...it has been stopped in the
middle. When I click on OK, the process continues till it finishes.
Does anyone have an idea why this would occur with nothing else running?

I have several email accounts set up in my Outlook Express. I want to have
email sent using my Hotmail pop3live.com account to automatically save a

Is this possible?

- Sort of files to be attached
-
Hi
When I attach a file or document in a outlook express email, the list of
files / documents are not sorted alphabetically.
They used to be sorted alphabetically , but something happened ( which I
cannot identify), and the list does not display alphabetically anymore.
If I view the menu., and I change from list to details, then I click on
the bar above, this action sorts the list allright, but the sort setting
is not saved for the next time I create a new email and when I open the
attachement dialog window to attahc a new file.
Can I fix this ? Thanks !!

- Problem Opening Attachments
-
Since I don't know the source of this problem, I'll start here. When a user
receives an email in Outlook Express with a Word or Excel 2003 attachment, it
takes a minute or more to open the attachment even if Word or Excel is already
open. A PDF attachment opens normally.
She already did a Detect and Repair in Word, and it did not make any difference.
Since the PDF attachment opens normally, it seems that OE is not at fault. Maybe
some other OE user has solved this problem.
The computer is XP SP3 fully updated. There are no viruses or malware. The
machine is perfectly clear.

- OE6 Doesn't sequester Password
-
I'm using an HP XPMCE 2005, IE7 and OE6. When opening OE I'm constantly asked
for ID and PW even though I've checked to remember sign on. Then it won't
recognize PW on occasion. ATT Tech Support is able to open OE remotely and it
works for a while and then the OE software rescind again.
Can OE6 be reinstalled or repaired?

- Maximum Size of Mail Folders/Files?
-
(Running Vista Ultimate 64-bit, SP-2, IE-7, WM-6, classic
mode, dial-up.)
(Cross-posted since my question is on the cusp of Outlook
Express and Windows Mail.)
Several years ago (1.9.04) Steve Cochran responded to my
question about maximum dbx folder sizes to the effect that
as long as each folder was less than 100 mb one was OK.
Since that time I upgraded from Windows 2000-Pro, SP-4,
IE-6, OE-6, classic mode, dial-up to my current Vista OS.
With that came Windows Mail. I was able to transfer
successfully my hundreds of dbx folders to Windows Mail, and
I'm now wondering about similar size limitations. So my
question is:
What are the suggested upper limits, either in the number of
email messages, or in kb or mb of size, for each folder in
Windows Mail?
Thanks.

- Start response after quote back?
-
Certainly this has been asked before but I just subscribed to this
newsgroup and back-dating is massive.
I have Outlook Express 6. Windows XP SP3, IE8.
Is there a way to start an e-mail response in OE6 BELOW the quoted
back text?
The default seems to be to insert the response ABOVE the quoted text.
In other programs you seem to have a choice and I cannot seem to find
that setting.
I'd like to insert the cursor below the quote back text.
Is it possible?
Thanks.

- Unable to receive Hotmail messages

I have been using OE6 to receive email messages of my Hotmail account, but
since the end of August, I am no longer able to do so any more. The error

Hotmail server: http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp
Response: "Forbidden"
Port: 0
SSL: No
Server Error: 998
Error Code: 0x800CCC33
I have not made any changes to the OE settings and my Hotmail account is
still active, as I can successfully log in online and view my email. I am
wondering if Microsoft has already dropped this service as there will be no
more Outlook Express for the upcoming Windows 7?
Please help.

- saving/moving dbx files
-
Running win xp pro with IE8 and OE6. Had to reformat PC so I saved all of my
OE dbx files (have created a lot of subfolders for different vategories of
emails). After reinstalling windows, I created my email account in OE and
then copied my saved dbx files back to the location where they were saved by
OE. Only some of the emails I had in my inbox moved and none of the
subfolders appeared at all. I've done this before with basically the same
procedure, so now I am confused as to why everything is not showing. Any
ideas would be truly appreciated. Thanks.

- I did something Stupid
-
Hello,
I was in outlook 6 and added a new folder.
After adding the folder I created a Message Rule.
I then applied the message to all the folders
and everything including what was in my sent folder and deleted folder
was moved to the new folder!
AUGH!
I then thought I would be smart and move everything to the Inbox - which it
didn't like -
after about 8 minutes, an error popped up saying, 'Can't Move File'.
The Inbox wouldn't even accept 1 email, even when it was coming in from the
server.
I then closed of the folders and "compact all folders".
The Inbox now works, however, I lost 4 months worth of emails!
I would really like to get them back,
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated,
Chuck

- Importing Single DBX Files
-
Here's my issue.
My friend's DBX files became corrupted (for whatever reason) and he
seemingly lost all his mail. It may have been just the pointer that was the
problem as I was able to restore most of his messages from the DBX files in
his "Outlook" folder.
Everything seemed to be better, but although I got about 90% of his messages
back, there is still a block of them missing. I beleieve I may have found
them in the *.BAK folders in his recycle bin. I retrieved & renamed them and
am now tyring to import them to a separate folder in OE, but it's not letting
me. I created new folders in OE to match the names of the .DBX files I want
to add and I've also checked to make sure they're not read-only.
When I try, I get the message that "No messages can be found in this folder
or another application..." etc.
Can someone advise what I'm doing wrong or how I can get around this? Thanks
in advance.

- Compacting once a day - a series of beeps - not closing
-
A compact message comes up very regularly - certainly not every 100 times I
open or close OE6.
Sometimes in the middle of the night the PC gives a series of beeps for
about 30 seconds. I suspect that this is related.
If I say no to "Do you want to compact?" I cannot open OE6: I get a message
that an instance of OE is already running. When I log off OE6 has to crash
and send an error log to Microsoft.
I am alarmed to read that one should not do anything while compacting is
taking place. There are no warnings about this in the messages from OE. It
does not make OE appear to be very robust.
