- Windows Cannot Load Device Driver....

I'm getting a message, "windows cannot load the device driver for this
hardware. The driver may be corrupt or missing." This occurs when I'm trying
to connect my USB Epson Perfection 3170 Scanner and my Firewire Panasonic
Camcorder. I've uninstalled both drivers numerous times and attempted to
reinstall both several times in safe mode and regular (Code 39); (Windows XP

- Slow Computer
-
Please help me with this issue.
I apologize if I have posted this in an inappropriate group.
I bought an Acer Aspire 6 cell Netbook (Windows XP I believe) a few
months ago . It ran great for a few months. Now it is vey slow.
I did the following:
1. Did a run
misconfig
and deselected the programs I did not want.
( I get an error window that says:
An access denied error was returned while attempting to change a
service...
but yet it seems to deselect the software)
2. Opened Chrome and Mozilla / Firefox and cleared history, cache
etc.
But it is still very slow.
I have not added /downloaded any software to the netbook nor changed
anything.
Can anyone please suggest what I should next ?
Thanks in advance for your input,
Irfan Williams

- windows xp stuck in 640x480 mode
-
Heres the story. I have a refurnished gateway(xp pro) that was running good.
- I went to the windows update site and downloaded alot of the updates.
Afterwords. i downloaded a few optional software and hardware updates. This
somehow caused the display setting to stay on 640x480 pixels-4 bit (color
quality). The optional updates were for the monitor and video card.
-Next, i ran dban to wipe the harddrive clean and reinstall with a dell
reinstall disc. The display setting is still stuck on 640x480 pixels-4 bit.
After the reinstall, its not connecting to the net; through my broadband
How do i reload the video setting? Nothing i've done has worked.
When reformatting, do i need to disconnect the ethernet cable?

- Help - Unable to Install XP Pro SP2
-
Hi, I just finished a new computer build and am trying to load windows XP. I
am able to boot to the CD and it starts to load the set-up files. When this
finishes I get a blue screen error that says:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your
computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed harddrives
or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly
configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption,
and then restart your computer.
Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
I tried loading XP on both a SATA drive and an older IDE drive with the same
error. I also tried Win 2000 on the IDE drive and got a similar error and an
inaccessible drive error message after the setup files loaded.
I tried all the memory in different slots without any change. The following
are the hardware info.

Asus suggested I download and burn Linux to a CD and see if it loads. I
would try this but I really dont know which version of Linux to use. I also
feel there is a fix here if only I knew what direction to go. Any additional
info needed please let me know.
Please help - It will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance

I currently have two hard disks (C, F). One of them is a clone (F) using

- Stop C000021a error
-
This is a followup to my previous thread "Registry Cannot Load the Hive..."
Recently, I was unable to start Windows XP Home and went through a number of
steps.
What had happened is that one of my memory DIMS was defective which
corrupted a lot of things on Windows Start up. I've used the recovery
console to do a repair and I ran a repair install after uninstalling IE8 and
Service Pack 3. When the repair install completed it reboots as it should, I
get the Windows screen then it indicates that it is is "continuing with
setup". a few seconds later, I get the
"Stop C000021a Fatal System error the Windows Logon Process System Porcess
terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0X0000135..... the system has been
shut down"
I'm going through the process now of uninstalling the patches and updates
that are on my system since I think the fact that it cant Logon probably has
something to do with Windows having The Original XP Home service pack 2
files restored but newer files on the system that might be conflicting.
Any ideas as to what my next steps might be?
Thanks,
bubsy

- XP Pro re-install fails at pci.sys
-
Hello,
At my wits end with this. I purchased a larger HD (250gb) for my Dell D600
and installed XP Pro SP2 fresh (upgraded to SP3 and all updates). Ran fine
for two months then I took an update for XP and shut the PC down for the
night. Next morning it would not boot. A little research told me that the
max HD size supported by my machine was 137gb. It was only a matter of time
before Windows would exceed that size limit according to Dell and the system
would fail to boot.
I could not boot into any version of windows XP nor even get a response from
pressing the F8 key. Total hang.
I booted UBCD4Win and defragged and shrank the partition to 135gb. Booting
in Linux, it was clear that all of my ProgramFiles and Documents and Settings
files were intact, but many key OS files were now zero length.
I restored the registry from a Restore Point that I knew worked using
Registry Restore Wizard.
As of now, I can boot off the XP Pro CD into the Recovery Console. It
detects the only installation of Windows and requests my correct admin
password. Have run chkdsk /r, bootcfg /rebuild, fixmbr, fixboot and can now
get the system to respond to the F8 key and give me the correct OS choice
(only the one XP Pro installation). Any attempt to boot hangs on PCI.SYS.
I have recovered that file from the original CD but I still get the same
message.
Having enough of this, I decided to do a re-install. However, Setup does
not recognize the XP installation though it does give me a message that it
not a good idea to load two operation systems on the same partition (I have
only one currently). So it recognizes an OS, but doesn't recognize it as
what is specified in the boot.ini file or any Windows OS.
Any help would be appreciated.

Up until a few weeks ago, I had XP Home running very well as well as OE's

- Log in with password
-
It just stopped some days ago, before that, when starting the computer for XP
SP3, I was always taken to the start password page to enter my account, or to
choose the guest account.
Now it directly logs in to my account.
I have checked my useraccount settings, and all are set as usual, and set to
log in with a password.
I can temp log off and get into the guest account, while my account is still
active, and log off the guest and come to the start screen where I have to
enter my password, or when the screensaver activates and upon return I need
to enter my password.
I don't know if this started with the latest update of service packs for
XP3, I did some days ago.

- Excessive login time. Does not hibernate properly
-
I have a Dell Latitude D830 with Windows Vista
My computer works fine as long as it is booted up and I have logged in
to my profile.
The problem appears to be that it does not hibernate properly and
takes about 5 minutes to log in to my profile. It boots up
normally.
Hibernate:
It starts to hibernate, but appears to hang up and never shuts the
drives or power off. After several minutes, I end up having to hold
the power button until it shuts down. This results in an improper
shutdown.
Excessive login time to my profile:
The computer boots up without a problem. When I login, however, it
may take 5 minutes to complete the login. I am sure there is some
=93stay resident=94 program that must be causing this problem.
My questions on the hibernation problem are:
1. Can I view a log of the hibernation sequence to see what may be
preventing the hibernation to complete?
2. Do you have a written procedure to track down this problem?
3. Is there a log that the computer creates that may shed some light
on this?
My questions on the long login problem are:
1. Can the gadget sidebar have anything to do with the excessive login
time?
2. Is there any way I can view the steps of the login process to see
what is causing the long delay?
3. Do you have any written procedure that I can use to debug this
problem?

I'm running XP Pro SP3 on ComputerA. There used to be a share
named myshare. It no longer exists. I mean that name and all its

Yet, when I open "My Network Places\Entire Network\Microsoft

still there. Worse, there I have no choice of deleting it. I can
see its property. If I try to open it, I get an error message

- How do I turn off the screen magnifier?
-
I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 with a Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0.
Every so often, I inadvertently click the small thumb button on the
mouse. This turns on the screen magnifier. When this happens, I haven't
been able to turn the screen magnifier off without re-booting. I did
find that if I change the default action for this mouse button to
something different while the magnifier is on that also shuts it off but
that isn't much better than re-booting.
According to
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Make-items-on-the-screen-appear-bigger-Magnifier
"To exit Magnifier, press the Windows logo key+Esc." This doesn't work
for me. Maybe this is for Windows 7 only or maybe it has to do with this
mouse. I haven't found an XP-specific page for keyboard shortcuts at
microsoft.com
How can I keep the magnifier function on this mouse key and turn the
magnifier off? Thanks!

had all been working fine until a few days ago. Suddenly, I can
no longer view any of the other computers on the Window's machines. I
can type in the machine's IP or BIOS name and then I can then access it.
However, when I try to view or access any of the other computers via "My
Network Places", all I receive is an error message that the workgroup
path was not found.
I have tried (I think) the usually steps to correct the problem. Since
it did work preciously, and since all of the Windows machines seem to
be suffering from the same problem, and since I can access any machine
using the IP or BIOS name, what could be causing this phenomena?

- skydrive explorer
-
Anyone know if skydrive explorer is safe to use or how to find out.
http://skydriveexplorer.com/index.php
What's to stop someone with a sinister motive from distributing
useful
looking software that can compromise your computer?
Why would skydrive explorer be free?

I can code all day long and make dll's when required.
Yet I have never been able to understand how to get a list of what program

Is there anyway to get a listing of what program uses which DLL's and which
registry entry is associated with which program AFTER INSTALLING?

- SP3 update for the Windows XP
-
Hi,
I have got a HP Pavilion and it has been running for a couple of years
without problems. In November I got a update for something called SP3, I
tried to run it but it failed to install. I have tried it about 25 times
withour success.
When I run it I get the following message, in Swedish:
"Installation failed
Error code: 0x643
Selfhelp
.........."
What does error code 0x643 mean?
What should I do to fix it?
In the Control Panel the SP3 file exists, but it has no size and cannot be
erased.
Please help!

- UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DRIVE error
-
Hiya!
My laptop battery has been dying for quite some time, since I had kept
it constantly in my laptop and didn't even realise I was supposed to
take it out when using the adaptor until recently. However, my computer
had said that it was still capable of recharging, just that the battery
life was shortened... and I kinda just ignored it since I was planning
on getting a new laptop soon, anyway.
To get to the point... today I needed to shift my laptop, so I
unplugged the adaptor, thinking that my laptop should still have a
little bit of battery left to sustain it- but instead, it immediately
switched off.
The next time I turned it on- Blue Screen of Death. I tried restarting,
in normal and Safe Mode, but the results were the same- BSOD.
Technical details:
UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DRIVE
0x000000ED (0x86CB8900, 0xC0000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6400.
Should a sudden power cut really be enough to reduce my computer to
this? And does anyone know what I could try to fix it- *if* it is
fixable at all?
Thanks so much!

- Copy and Paste to a CD
-
I have a Dell 8200 desktop running Windows XP Home edition w/SP3, and IE8. I
have Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Basic v 5.3.5.10
I developed a problem when doing a copy and paste from different media (C
drive, Floppy, another CD) to a CD-RW disk. It used to write the CD-RW in a
CDUDFRW format, but since a problem developed, it now writes the CD-RW disk
in a CDFS format. I have been working with someone on a Dell forum, and they
think it was first using my Roxio software during the copy and paste, but
because of some problem, it defaulted to using the WindowsXP CD burning
software instead. Is there some place to specify what software actually does
the CD disk burning when a simple copy and paste is done? The problem is
also causing the inability to eject a CD-RW disk that contains the original
CDUDFRW format. (Just a different symptom that started at the same time). I
have looked in the WindowsXP help screens, as well as the help screens in
Roxio, and have not found any settings that would decide what software would
do the CD burning on a simple copy and paste. Perhaps if I knew what
controls this operation, it may help in finding a solution. Thanks for
your time. Charles Ranheim

- unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool
-
About every 24-36 hours I get this error in the Event Viewer: "The server
was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged
pool because the pool was empty.", Event 2019. After this comes up several
times, a variety of other errors may appear in the Event Viewer and it
usually does a minidump and reboots (or it freezes up and I have to manually
reboot). Usually the computer is idle when this happens, though Outlook2003
and a copy of Internet Explorer7 are open.
I've read this has something to do with an application with a memory leak,
but nothing in the Task Manager looks out of the ordinary to me (regarding
NPpool memory, virtual memory, memory usage, handles, etc). I've tried
disabling my Avast AV and Windows Defender, but I still have the problem.
I tried using Poolmon.exe but the results of that were basically
inscrutable. I couldn't tell what would be good or bad on that display.
Is this the kind of thing that would be corrected with a clean Windows
install? Or any other suggestions short of a Windows reinstall?
WindowsXP, SP3, Compaq laptop.

- Clone XP System From One Laptop to Another
-
I have a Lenovo laptop that is failing. I have a Dell laptop of
comparable specs that has no hard drive. Can I use a clone of my Lenovo
system (made in Acronis) to populate a new hard drive for the Dell? I
know some drivers will be different (graphics card, etc.) but will this
work, specifically, will the XP OS still be "considered" Authentic by MS
standards (for example when accessing updates from the MS site) even
though it would be running on a different computer than the one for
which is was OEM registered?

- WinXP-Internet gateway blocking internet access - how to remove it
-
Win XP Media Center Edition SP2
Comcast - ISP
Linksys wireless router
My friend has this problem. He cannot access the internet from the desktop
PC (above).
It is wire connected to the router. IPCONFIG returns proper addressing
10.10.10.101; gateway 10.10.10.1
The 2 other systems in his house are wireless to the Linksys router and work
just fine.
a PING to www.yahoo.com just times out. PING to 10.10.10.2 shows 4
successes.
In network connections I noticed that the Internet Gateway is present. The
"delete" is greyed out. Could this be causing the problem since he has an
external router and does not need a "connection sharing" adapter?
If so, how do I remove the Internent gateway.

- Write Delay failed
-
Hello
Recently I tried to copy a number of folders full of photo files from my
secondary hard drive to a CF memory card via an external 2.0 USB card
reader. One image folder was 1.5GB; another was 311MB. Occasionally, during
the copying I will get an error message stating the a particular image file
could not be found and this was normally accompanied with another error
message from the system tray stating the following:
"Windows - Delayed Write Failed
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file \Device\HardDiskVolume"
I have winXp (SP3), 1.5GB RAM, 3.06GHz Celeron CPU, motherboard is an Asrock
P4VM800, 3 hard drives where the OS is on a 300GB sata, the image hard drive
is 40GB.
Can someone please advise what is going on and the solution to this.
Thanks
