- Deleted e-mails are not deleted.
-
I run a small network with mixed users of Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007
Until recently each user on the network stored mail in its own local PS
file however mail was controlled via our e-mail server (Softalk Mai
Server) which collected mail for each users account from our ISP. Eac
users Outlook then queried the mail server to bring in e-mail it ha
collected.
In order to create a centralised mail store I have installed an
configured another of Softalk products (Softalk Share Server) whic
provides a collaboration and centralised mail store alternative t
Exchange.
Since using this centralised mail store a problem has occurred which
thought must be an issue with the Softalk Share Server software
however when googling the problem it seems that many people have th
same issue when a centralised mail store is used, such as Exchange o
similar but I cannot find a resolution.
Now, when an e-mail arrives in a users inbox, if it is deleted befor
it is read (ie it has been viewed in the preview pane, deemed a
rubbish, but the e-mail has not been opened) then a second after it i
deleted it reappears back in the inbox. There are only two ways i
which the users can remove the e-mail (again) as selecting th
re-appeared e-mail and pressing delete again does not work, a messag
box comes up saying something like "the selected object could not b
located" If however the user shift-deletes the re-appeared e-mail the
they will be asked if they want to permanently delete the e-mail, the
say yes and the mail does delete for a second time. The other way o
making the re-appeared e-mail disappear is to select another folde
within the outlook folders such as deleted items or sent items or an
other folder and then return to the inbox, then the reappeared e-mai
has gone. This to me seems to be some sort of Outlook refresh issu
which I cannot get to the bottom of. Softalk are stumped and do no
know why it is happening and as I say, when I google this problem ther
are many people having exactly the same issue who do not use Softalk bu
another centralised mail store such as exchange or something else.
would be grateful if anyone here can shed some light on why this migh
be happening and any potential solutions. Thank you

- Error with extend.dat
-
I have a multi-user Access-application which creates Outlook emails using
automation (Office 2002). It has worked seamlessly for over 2 years now. The
application runs in a Citrix environment.
Since recently one of the users occasionally and for no apparent reason gets
the following error message: "An extension failed to initialize. Can't open
file extend.dat...". When he clicks OK everything continues as it should.
I Googled and found that it might help to delete the extend.dat file.
However, I can't find such a file in the user's private folder.
Does someone perhaps:
- have an idea where I should look for this file,
- or have an other idea how to debug this error?
Thanks in advance,
Lars

- Help -- Outlook 2000 SMTP problems (Internet mode)
-
One of my users messed up her Outlook by trying to send an email to a
mal-formed email address, i.e. john@smith and jones.tld insted of
john@smithandjones.tld. Now, whenever she right-clicks on a file and
tries to send it as an attachment via email, Outlook gives her an
error about trying to send to a malformed email address in the details
of the error message, but if you switch tabs on the dialog window, it
says outlook failed sending 25 messages.
None of the messages appear in the Outbox and I can't figure out how
to clear this. I've already created a new PST file, I've already run
the "outlook.exe /cleanprofile" and outlook.exe /safe and none of
these commands has worked. Is there somewhere to find the "stuck"
messages and delete them?

- question re: re-enabling cached exchange mode
-
I've scanned this group for posts regarding cached exchange mode and
OST files, but haven't found the information I need.
I need to know the impact of re-enabling cached exchange mode and NOT
removing any old OST files.
Scenario:
User works with Outlook (2003 or 2007) in cached exchange mode for a
period of time. Then, for whatever reason, cached exchange mode is
disabled.
The OST file is NOT deleted or renamed.
After some time (months maybe), cached exchange mode is turned back
ON. The user's profile in Outlook has not changed, nor has there been
any change on the Exchange 2003 server regarding the mailbox settings.
What happens with regard to the OST file? Does Outlook use the old OST
file and tries to sync it with the mailbox, possibly putting old items
stored in the OST file back into the mailbox? Or will Outlook create a
new PST file?
Thanks in advance.

- Looking for good email program?
-
Hi forum members,
This is the first time I've posted at this forum, and probably the best
place for me to start to look for answers to my qustions.
I want to completely switch from my web based email, to an excellent
"client" based email program, with the emphasis on "client" based, not
internet/web based email.
With Microsoft, it appears I have two choices, Outlook, or Outlook Express.
Up front I'm stating, not interested in all the bells and whistles that may
or may not be added on to what I'm looking for in an excellent email program,
I.E. calendar, scheduling, and whatever may be available. I'm simply looking
for the best darn client based email program that exists, whether it's free,
or, I have to pay for it.
So, between Outlook and Outlook Express, what are the pros and cons about
one versus the other?
Please don't waste your time or mine tellilng me about the stuff I've stated
I'm not interested in. Simply want to compare Outlook vs Outlook Express's
email program and how either will serve me best.
My needs:
1 - I will want to set up a minimum of three email addreses, for business
and personal uses.
2 - Will need an address/conact book that can handle the details of each
contact.
3 - Will need to back-up the emails and contact data fairly easily so if my
hard drives crash or the program becomes corrupt somehow I have my info that
can be quickly, easily and confidently restored to the email program for easy
"up and running use again".
4 - Must have reputable security in place.
5 - Must be able to handle allot of daily email to each email address where
I can separate, sort, and organize the incoming and outgoing email in a
manner I choose, such as a tree lilke structure with folders I choose to set
up and arrange.
6 - Must have "average or above" email formatting abilities, with the
ability to add attachments of "most all"common types.
Again, please don't waste anybody's time with stuff that's not relevant to
my question.
Outlook or Outlook Express? For EMAIL PURPOSES. One or the other, Why vs
Why Not?
After all, successful business is about making things simpler, not more
complicated, when it comes to getting the job at hand done! Email that is.
Thanks for any help with info that will help me make my decision when it
comes to Outlook vs Outlook Express.
best to all,
Roas

- Outlook 2007 Does not Compact
-
Outlook.PST was growing 1.069 GB - Tried manual compaction -
(Highlight Personal Folders, Right Click; Properties; Advanced;
Compact Now). Lots of disk activity, but no change in the size of
Outlook.pst as reported by Windows Explorer.
Next I deleted over 100 Meg of files, emptied trash and manually
compacted again. Stll Windows Explorer says Outlook.pst is 1.069 GB
Then I learn auto archiving had been turned off. Turn it on. The
size of Archive1.pst increases by ~400 Megs. Run manual compact. The
size of Personal Folders Outlook reports is decreased by the 400Meg,
but Windows does not see any change in Outlook.pst size.
On the theory the size on the HDD might be full of holes, I even
copied Outlook.pst to a thumb drive -- still 1.069 GB
OS is Vista Business w/ SP2.
Any ideas?

- Need to custom identify incoming outlook messages and keep this
-
I need to map an incoming message with the replying outgoing messages
using a custom identifier. The incoming message should be built
including this custom identifier and sent to the end user in outlook.
We could add this identifier as part of the e-mail subject, but prefer
to add it somewhere that the end user cannot edit.
When the end user replies to the message, it is important that this
custom identifier is included in the reply message, just as it would
if we included it in the subject field.
Is there a document field that can be used for this purpose, and will
the value in this field be transferred into the reply-message?
If so, will it work for every recepient without having to make any
changes, or must it be published for every recepient separately?

-
I have used Outlook for several years without a problem. I have now moved to
Windows 7 64-bit and find that my older emails are randomly disappearing
i.e. sometimes everything more that a few days old will vanish and other
times it will let me keep them for several weeks. As far as I can tell every
instance of 'Archive' is switched off. I have also been unable to track down
the missing emails.
For the time being I have changed over to WLM but do not like it for many
reasons, one being that I miss the calendar reminders down the side of my

Outlook with Newsgroups.
I would be very grateful for any help that can be given and thank you in

- Hyperlinks in messages get "expanded"
-
I sometimes mention a web address or email address in the messages I send.
For example, I
may say "please look at www.microsoft.com "
When I compose the message, such a reference becomes underlined and
clickable and it still appears like that when the message is sent (in Sent
Items.)
However, when the recipient of such a message replies with my original
message quoted, I will sometimes (but not always) see that these "clickable"
references in my original have changed this way:
please look at www.microsoft.com <http://www.microsoft.com >
The mysteriously "added" entry within the brackets is clickable while my
original test is not. (My newsreader may make the original text clickable
here but
it isn't in the email.)
What causes this to happen? Is it the recipient's email program?

- Send setting keeps reverting
-
I use Office 2007 and have installed SP2. About 2 weeks ago computer locked
up. Ctrl/Alt/Delete wouldn't even work. So did hard power down. Outlook was
open. Doesn't do it all the time but since then it randomly sets a Delayed
Delivery. When I open an email and uncheck Delayed Delivery, close, reopen
the email, DD is still checked. It's always set to send that day at 5pm. But
it never does. Just sits in Outbox. But I stumbled across a partial
fix........If I drag the email from Outbox to Drafts, open, uncheck Delayed
Delivery, click Send, it sends fine, as usual. I've looked in MS KB, all
kinds of blogs and forums. No one seems to know why it's randomly setting DD
and how to stop it. Doesn't do it on all email.
Any ideas how to fix?
What file are these setting stored in?

- E-mail goes directly to Tasks?
-
Hey all,
E-mails I receive from one particular address keep going to "tasks" i
Outlook Express. This wouldn't be a problem, except that they ar
e-mails from my work and are not syncing with any of my other devices.
Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank
