- Is OL2007 pst file backwards compatible to OL2003
-
I'm currently using 32 bit Win 7 and Outlook 2007.
To take advantage of the ability to use more DRAM I want to convert to
the 64 bit Win 7 version.
I installed 64 bit Win 7. For the moment I cannot locate my OL2007
disks so I installed OL2003 as a temporary stop-gap. I copied the pst
file from 32 bit Win 7/OL2007 into the proper folder in the new Win 7 64
bit/OL2003 installation.
From within Outlook I go to File > Open > Outlook data file and when I
select the pst file from the OL2007 system I get the message that the
data file is not an Outlook file.
Is there some way to do what I'm trying to do? Have I done something wrong?
Any help is appreciated.

- Exchange Inbox no longer auto archiving
-
OL2K3 SP3 connected to Exchange Server. My Inbox is no longer archiving.
I see the message in the status area saying that archiving is taking place,
but no messages are moved.
Auto archive schedule set for every 2 weeks.
Have tried "archive according to default schedule" & specifically "archive
every 2 weeks"
Have also tried manual archive (File - Archive ...)
Can drag and drop messages from Inbox to Archive folder
Other folders from the OST do archive correctly
Have created a new Outlook profile and a new archive folder
Can archive from a test PST Inbox to the archive folder
Auto archive was working on the Inbox in the past.
I spoke to the company that hosts our Exchange Server and there are no
policies etc preventing me from doing this.
Don't know what else to try

- Cannot See New Mail Item in Outlook 2007 IMAP Accounts
-
Hello,
I have a few IMAP accounts where everything works with the accounts until at
some point in time I can no longer see new mail item in the folders of the
IMAP accounts. The Send/Receive synchronizations are successful.
I have tried:
- Forcing the IMAP accounts to re-sync.
- Forcing the subscribed IMAP folders to re-sync.
- Running scanpst repeatedly on the PST files used by the IMAP accounts
until no error is shown.
I still cannot see any new mail item in Outlook for the IMAP folders.
I double-check and I find the new mail items using the web interface of the
email accounts. This seems to happen only on GoDaddy email accounts.
The only way I can fix the problem is by removing the IMAP email accounts,
and recreating them.
Has anyone experienced similar problem?

- Why isn't my Outlook.pst file compacting?
-
I'm trying to compact my Outlook.pst folder (which is 3.28GB) and it just
refuses to.
In Outlook 2007 :
I'm using File / Data File Management
I click on the Personal Folders item.
I click Settings.
I click Compact Now.
It seemed to be doing some kind of work the first time I used it, because it
took 30 seconds to finish. However, the file remained 3.28GB when it was
done. I tried compacting again, and this time it did it in 1 second. So it
actually DID do something the first time.
I exit Outlook and reload it. Outlook.pst is still 3.28GB.
I exit Outlook, empty recycle bin, and reloat Outlook. No change.
I reboot the friggin computer. No change. Outlook.pst is still 3.28GB.
The hell is going on here?

- Outlook 2010 lost eMail addresses from contacts
-
Hi All,
Outlook 2010 14.0.4536.1000 and SBS 2003 Exchange Server.
I had a customer call me with a strange question this morning.
Seems everything in his contacts is there -- names, addresses,
phone numbers, etc. -- except their eMail addresses. I had him
turn all the column on for eMail and still nothing but empty
columns.
Any ideas?
Many thanks,

- Outlook, IMAP, and AOL errors
-
I have a customer that refuses to let go of AOL. Anyway, I have the
AOL configured using IMAP in Outlook and I get 2 error messages every
time she opens up Outlook. "Your IMAP server wishes to alert you to
the following: 270 (1032) that mail is not currently available" and
"Your IMAP server wishes to alert you to the following: 258 (1032)

they are. I turned on Outlook logging and can't figure out how to
identify them. Here is the relevant section of the log:

Hi,
What is the best way to remove duplicates (of all types) in Outlook (my

I know there are serval programs but which one is "the best"? In the
sense that I can be sure that only *real* duplicates are removed and not
important data by accident?
If commercially, I would prefer those with a trial period ...

- Am I paying for Hotmail for nothing?
-
I am currently PAYING for my Hotmail because I wanted to be able to download
my Hotmail emails to Outlook. Before Outlook Connector, and after the switch
from Hotmail to Live mail, this was the only way to do this. In other words,
for a few months, the only way to download Hotmail items locally to Outlook
was to subscribe to the Hotmail pay service.
Since then, from what I understand, Outlook Connector handles this sort of
thing for free.
If the only reason I'm paying for Hotmail is the ability to download mail
into Outlook (and back it up to PST file), am I currently paying for my
Hotmail service for no reason?
Should I feel free to cancel it?
I feel like I've been had, here.
Thanks.

- cached mode - mailbox on server does not reflect local changes
-
I have a user, Outlook 2007 in cached mode, whose mailbox does not
seem to be syncing with all of his local folders. He has a large
mailbox, so has been moving items out of folders to PST files, then
deleting those items from the local copy. However, those items remain
in the server version of that folder -- days later he can use OWA and
see those items in that folder; he has to delete them using OWA for
them to disappear.
Single items in his Inbox can be deleted from the local copy and are
reflected properly in OWA.
I checked his Sync Issues folders and found nothing significant (about
5 items in Local Issues, not related to this issue).
The only thing I can think to do is disable cached mode, close
outlook, delete all existing OST files, launch Outlook, re-enable
cached mode, and let it create a new OST file. I hesitate only because
he's got such a large mailbox and he'd be doing this across our WAN.
Any other suggestions?

- Question about outlook with attachment with name att00001.txt
-
Dear all,
I would like to ask a problem about the MS outlook, details as follows:
One of our client which using MS outlook 2000/2003/2007 have a problem about received email (using pop3), which we don't know why it will automatic added a file (att00001.txt) no matter the file with attachment or not. What our client use mail server are Linux Postfix, in front of the Postfix, our client use Cisco Ironport to scan the spam mail.
The network diagram:
Postfix <-> Ironport <-> Firewall <-> Internet
We had made a few test and found that:
1. If the client open the mail on web (webmail), the email will show correctly (which do not have the attachment att00001.txt)
2. If the client use outlook express to receive the mail (using pop3), the email will also show correctly content (which do not have the attachment att00001.txt)
3. If the client use MS outlook 2000/2003/2007 to receive the mail, then there will be a extra file att00001.txt on the email
I am not sure the problem cause, and I would like to ask how can I further troubleshoot (isolate the problem) thanks!
Thanks!

I have discovered an issue with Outlook 2007. If a user clicks on a mailto

- Outlook 2000 (time-stamp on received mail, check-for-mail not working)
-
My computer (win-98se) has a correctly modified time-zone registry entry
for my time zone so it knows when DST is.
The clock in the bottom corner of my screen says 10:45 pm EST, and it's
currently set for GMT-5.
In outlook, I just recieved an e-mail with the following in the header:
--------------
Received:
from (sender's out-bound SMTP server) by (my corporate server)
for (me)
Sun, 28 Mar 2010 10:39:12 -0500
My corporate server has the correct time and time-zone offset.
Received:
from (some intermediate machine)
by (sender's out-bound SMTP server)
for (me)
Sun, 28 Mar 2010 10:38:17 -0400
The second recieved line indicates that the intermediate machine has the
right time, but wrong offset.
Received:
from (the sender's machine) by (intermediate machine)
28 Mar 2010 10:25:56 -0400
The sender's machine seems to have the right time, but wrong offset.
The sender is also in the Eastern Time zome.
---------------
In Outlook 2000, outlook is showing me the above e-mail (in the e-mail
list pane) with a time of 11:39 am. When I double-click the message to
open it in it's own window, Outlook displays a time of 10:27 am in the
grey header-type area above the actual message window.
In Outlook, Tools, Options, Calendar options, time-zone, I have Time
Zone: GMT-5 (Eastern time USA Canada) and a check in the "adjust for
daylight savings time".
The current time says "10:57 am". The option "show an additional time
zone" is not checked.
So my question is - where exactly is outlook getting the "11:39 am" time
that it's using when it displays the recieved time for this e-mail in
the message list pane? And why does it show the more correct time
(10:27 am) in the header of the message when I open it?
Another example:
---------------
Received:
from (an IP web-camera) by (my server) for (me)
Sun, 28 Mar 2010 10:55:45 -0500
--------------
The camera is on the same LAN as my server. The camera connected
directly to my mail server to send an e-mail to a local account (mine).
The header of this e-mail does not have a DATE: line. The camera did
not stamp any line in the header with a time-stamp of it's own. Outlook
displays this e-mail in the list pane with a time of 11:56 am.
When I open the e-mail, outlook prints "Sent: none" in the grey header
area above the message window. The "none" must be due to the fact that
there is no actual Date: line in the e-mail header.
But again, outlook displays a recieved time that is +1 hour after the
real received time.
Next problem:
I have outlook configured to retreive e-mail from four pop3 accounts
(using port 110) and one pop3 account (using port 995). I'm having
problems with one of the accounts using port 110, so in Tools, Options,
Mail Services, under "Check for new mail on" I've removed the check box
associated with that account. I've closed outlook and restarted several
times. But outlook is still trying to log into that account to check
for mail. Why is it doing that, and how do I get it to stop?

- how do I change list order in color catagory assignment in office
-
only 15 color catagories can be displayed in color assignment in office
outlook 2007. I wish to change the order of the list. I tried to number them
1-15, but it did not change the list. It did show 10-15 in the top of the
list, and 1-9 on the bottom. I wish it to show them in order of 1-15, not
necessarily with numbers, but with the color and catagory that I have assigne
to them.
any help would be appreciated THNX

- Outlook PST Recovery Issues
-
Hi, recently my Outlook PST got corrupted for some reason. I'm sure th
fact it was almost exactly 2.0gb had a lot to do with this (although
thought this limit was long since fixed?).
Wonderfully, I discovered my new SyncToy backup process hadn't been
backing it up! Great.
Outlooks own recovery tool would not work, it would just fail withou
explaination, so I tried a number of 3rd party recovery tools. The onl
one I had much success with (without forking out hundreds of dollars
as a simple home user I couldn't legitimise this expense) was a
application called R-Mail. However this had a side effect of taggin
all of my old emails as Unsent Mail - i.e. all the email in my inbo
sent to me by other people was labelled in the way you would expec
email sitting in your outbox!
So my questions are twofold:
1. Is there any way to easily batch change these emails t
'received/read' rather than 'unsent'?
2. I still have a copy of the corrupted PST file - is there perhaps
better (preferably cheap or free) application I can try to recover m
PST file?
3. Oh and any ideas why SyncToy, despite me telling it to backup th
entire contents of My Documents, wasn't copying my Outlook PS
contained therein?
I'm on Windows 7 Home and am running Outlook 2007 SP2.
Thanks

- Change background color of inbound email
-
In Outlook 2007, I have from left to right, Mail - shows all inbound, sent,
and mail folders, the next is my inbox, and the third is the actual email
being show that is highlighted in my inbox. My problem is that some email
when it is displayed can not be seen due to colors. 90 percent of my email is
fine, but some email I can not read because of the font color, or the
background color. I want to know how do I change the background color, or
font color of a displayed email?

- Outlook Contacts phone numbers
-
I have Windows XP pro with Office 2007 and a verizon Ozone phone runing
windows 6.1. I sync my Outlook to the phone locally through Activesync. My
problem is, I add phone numbers to my contacts in Outllok, and the when I try
to call them from my windows phone, the phone sees the number as
international and the call fails. Apparently this is because the number has
an extention.
Verizons answer is to edit the phone number on the phone itself and add the
letter p where outlook puts an x (for extention). this works until you edit
the person in outlook then the x is put back in... from this type of phone
using the companies directory instead of the extention is difficult and does
not seem like somethin you should have to do. It also seems you should be
able to edit numbers from inside Outlook and have them work properly with a
windows phone.
where am I making my mistake?

- How do I find an Outlook template I created for mailing?
-
I created a standard reply in a template in Outlook.
Now, I need to create a rule to send that template reply to all people who
have used certain words in their emails to me.
However, the template does not appear in any folder I have tried. Even the
default folder has only one template, "mail". Where has Outlook put my
template, do you suppose? A search has not revealed it, presumably because
templates are not actually files.
For that matter, how is it that no other (i.e., the shipping templates) show
up when I look for the template where it defaults to?
Thanks.
Don.

Hi,
My sister and her husband currently use a single comcast account, but now
they want to set up a second account so that they each have their own. I've
looked, via a google serach, and also at comcast's web site, for directions
on how to do this but was unable to find any. Could anyone tell me how to
do this? Thanks for any help.

- templates and pulling addresses from a text file
-
most grateful for any help...
I work for a company in which we have three distinct regions - europe
asia, america. we have blanket notifications for three three regions i
which we have to send a chain of three e-mails to a unique group o
e-mail addresses for each region - a notification, update an
resolution.
each region has a unique set of e-mail addresses to send this to. th
three lists are of around 200 addresses each. i have the e-mail list
in unique text files, separated so that i can cut and paste fro
notepad and dump the addresses straight into the 'bcc' field, and the
send. i have the templates set up for the e-mails, and just need to cu
and paste the addresses before sending.
my query is - is there some way to do this automatically, so that i ca
keep the text file (or change it to some other source where i update th
e-mail addresses) updated with the addresses, but run a macro o
something that pulls the addresses and puts them straight in the bc
field?
as i have three separate e-mails to send out each time, i find it'
much easier to maintain one list of addresses per region rather tha
having the addresses already in the bcc fields of the templates. ie.
only have to update the one list of addresses in the text file, rathe
than updating the notificaion, update and resolution templates with ne
addresses.
the issue is that the three global regions need to access thes
templates to send - the templates are stored on our global intranet.
is there an easy solution for this? i hope i have written this in
too-confusing manner...
thanks for any advice

Hi All,
I am sending emails in outlook with voting buttons. But once I receive the
email and I vote using voting buttons in outlook, Email body history gets
deleted when the voting response email is received. Is there any outlook
property that I can
use to keep the email body transcript from getting deleted when the voting
responses are received?
Thanks in advance.

- Mystery spell check issue
-
If I type "cancelation" and "cancellation" (2 lls) in Word 2003 I don't get
any errors. If I type "cancelllation" (3 lls) I do get the red alert
underscore. When I right click on the word, the words listed are
"cancellation" and "cancellations" (both with 2 lls).
So my questions:
1 - If the single "l" "cancelation" is not an error, why would it not
suggest that on the right click?
2 - If the single "l" is in the spell check dictionary, how do I remove it?
Thanks.
