- Windows Update Does Not Recognize Administrator
-
Vista SP1. I just completed many updates from the Windows update site. With
several non critical ones left, I went back to finish. Now I can't download
/ install because it says I need Administrator permission. I checked user
accounts and of course there is only one account listed and it being
administrator, which I'm logged in on. I tried changing the account and it
recognizes me as an administrator and allowed me to make changes.
Applications requiring administrator work just fine but the update site
does not :( As per an earlier post I read here, I ran Update Agent 3,
still no joy. How can I regain update site permission.
Thanks

- Windows update scan for new updates always fails (clean XP install) - 0xC80003FA, 0x8024000E,0x800706BE
-
Hi all,
I've been unable to use windows update after a fresh XP SP3 install. This
is a slipstreamed disc & it has been used successfully to reinstall the OS
in the past.
I can connect to windows update, but the scan for new updates always fails
with an error message. I have seen three different error messages
0xC80003FA
0x8024000E
0x800706BE
XP installed without any issues & appears to be otherwise stable. The only
software installed prior to going to windows update was MS Office & Avira
(anti-virus). Negative anti-virus scan. Chkdsk /f /r & Seatools (drive
diagnostic)
both report a healthy drive, with no file system errors or bad sectors.
Since I
can't download windows updates, I did a clean reinstall of xP without
installing
Office & Avira, but still get the same windows update errors.
My initial thought was KB 943144 where SP3 machines couldn't connect to
windows update because Wups2.dll wasn't registered properly. Didn't help.
I also tried registering
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
The 0xC80003FA error is discussed in KB 916258. It suggests deleting a
presumably corrupt SoftwareDistribution folder. No change. I also deleted
the temp files, cookies, history & related windowsupdate status key.
I didn't find anything in the KB about the 0x8024000E error. But a Google
search suggested that it might be solved by running system file checker.
Didn't help.
And the 0x800706BE error has hundreds of KB hits, relating to the remote
procedure call (RPC) service. But I didn't see anything specfici to
windows update. I did confirm that the RPC & background intellegent
transfer service were running. One MVP suggested trying changing the RPC
service login from a WINNT system to a local user login, but it didn't
make a difference for me.
My windowsupdate logs are rather large at this point, but what I think are
the relevant portions are appended below.
I would be grateful for any insight into this or suggestions on how to
proceed.
Thanks,
Bernd

- Stuck on error message 80240016
-
Hi everyone, and thanks for the useful info in this group. I am using
Windows Vista Home Premium and cannot get Windows Updates at present. The
update symbol is permanently in my system tray with the message 'Windows
can't
check for updates'. When I try to run it I get error message 80240016
'Windows Update is currently installing updates. Please try again in a few
minutes'. The 'available update' which claims to be waiting to be installed
is Windows Vista Service Pack 2. It has been stuck like this for weeks, and
always returns the same message. I would be most grateful for any
suggestions as to how to remove this block and get updates running again.
Thanks.

- My comp cuts off every 15 minutes after I install "important" upda
-
I know that there may be 1000 people on here who have already asked this
question, but in my case, I don't have the time to search for that answer.
The reason I don't have time is this... For about the past 5 years, I have
owned 3 different comps, and have had XP or Vista running on them. Every
time I install the updates for my system, or I let the system update
automatically, every 15 min. after the updates take effect,WITHOUT FAIL, my
computer restarts itself!! I will then go into the control panel and
completely reset my comp back to the last checkpoint that was made before the
auto update. I have tried every single thing conceivable to remedy this! I
am by no means computer illiterate, but this is killing me here!! So now, I
never allow my computer to update, and that keeps my computer on when I need
it to be. My wife's family has a friend, that's an IT guy, that sets up the
comp networks for large businesses. This guy's entire life is dedicated to
setting up, and maintaining large comp networks, and when he came to my home
and I showed him the whole process, he had no idea what was causing it. He
went so far as to take my comp for 4 days, back to his home to figure it out
and he couldn't!! So I'm hoping there is someone on this website that knows
more than him, and can give me some type of solution for this problem, or can
at least tell me I'm out of luck and never install updates on my computer!!
hahaha Thanks!!!!!!!!

I downloaded the two updates from Microsoft website and tried manual install

I have vista business and MS Office 2007. The above two updates are related

I hope some one can come up with a solution or probably already has one?!! I
ended up going round and round on the web and also on microsoft website.

I attempt to run Windows Update on a Win 2003 SP2 server. The home page

current version (7.4.7600.226).

I have an hyper-v virtual server (win 2008 x64 enterprise) with iis and

After installing the following updates:
KB970430
KB971737
KB973917
KB890830
the system stop during reboot (the screen keeps showing update 0% 3/3).
I tried to restart a clean backup copy of the virtual machine and tried to
reinstall the updates and find out that I got the same problem with KB970430
only.
Stopping the machine and restarting it in safe-mode, installation completes
but starting again, several services do not start, I can't open internet

shows that the network is connected but I can still ping another host...

- updater in system tray disappears
-
Windows XP SP3, IE7
When the icon for windows tray appears telling me I have updates, I
click on it, chose custom, and chose the updates I wish to install. It
starts downloading the updates, and the icon disappears, but never comes
back to let me install the updates. -- Even if I reboot.
So if I go into IE and choose Windows Update tool, I select the updates
I want. After these have downloaded again, all of a sudden the icon
appears again in the system tray, like, oh -- I forgot -- you can
install these updates now.
At this time I usually just let IE7 install the updates.
This is mostly a minor annoyance, but just curious, as to what could be
causing this behavior.

- Help Needed for windows Vista after a Update was downloaded
-
Hi,
Hoping someone can help me...
I tried downloading a microsoft "update" a few days ago, I dont remember
what the update was for, just that the size of it was over 700 ..
In the middle of the download, it said I didnt have enough space.. yet it
continued to download what it could.
At the end of it, it said that there was 1 other component that needed to
download, yet failed.. and to try again.
At which point, I did, and it said it was successful..
yet, after rebooting the system, it hangs and when I try and do anything
word, or other.. it comes up with a error message that says "Windows
Installer (or could be) Windows update explorer has stopped, this window will
close out"
At which point you have a choice to close it or x out of it and try and
continue to work..
Problem is.. the error msg keeps coming back up
I am running windows vista on a laptop.
Service Pack 2
Any Suggestions would greatly be apprciated!
Thank you... Susan

unregister and re-register wuaueng.dll. It will not re-register, gives the
message "dllregisterserver in wuaueng.dll failed. Return code was
0x80070514". I renamed this dll and it was recreated but still the same
error. I expanded the dll from the 2003 disk to the system32 folder but it
still will not register. The automatic update service doesn't exist any more
as a result.
I ran sfc /scannow which made no difference.

- Windows 7 64-bit Office Update in Windows Update
-
I have a new install of Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium.
I have Windows Update running fine for Windows itself.
I have installed Word & Excell from Office 2007, and have (with considerable
effort) located the latest updates for them.
At work, on Vista or Windows 7 Professional, the Office Update/Microsoft
Updates are integrated with Windows Update, and happen concurrently - a
single "check for updates" scans for all, and automatic updates picks up all.
NOT so here at home... I cannot persuade Windows Update applet to show any
interest in Office. When I click the "find out more" button, I get a "needs
administrator privileges" error in IE8; if I disable UAC, I get the web-page
for Windows Update (tells me I'm up to daye) with the tab for Office Updates,
but that just shows up the useless "what people are downloading" - no
priority for or gathering together of the real important security updates.
What on earth do I have to do to integrate Office Update into the Windows
Update applet?

- XP and Office 2003 Updates
-
On Dec 9th, I got 9 overnight automatic updates installed for XP and Office
2003. The very next morning, my wireless adapter froze. I inserted the
driver disk to reinstall, but found my CD/DVD drive wasn't working either.
And I couldn't even get the computer to shut down. A hard reboot gets it all
working again, but only for about 6 to 8 hours, then they freeze up again
(or maybe it is caused by a few hours of inactivity). Downloaded the latest
driver for the D-Link wireless adapter and reinstalled it, but to no avail.
I've also got a few messages about "Window not being able to initialize the
application." (Not sure which app it was refering too.)
What happened with these updates that broke everything? Is there a fix?

- Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP2: Automatic Downloads stall on shutdown
-
This is the second time this has happened. I reformatted and reinstalled
everything the first time, and am not willing to do this again.
When Vista automatically downloads updates, I find that when I
shutdown/restart, I get the message "Please do not shutdown or unplug your
computer. Installing update 1 of XX .."
The computer has stayed on this message for as long as 12 hours (it started
when I left this morning and was still showing the same message when I came
home), with the ".." moving thru its stages as expected. I had to force
shutdown on my computer and cannot install any new programs or updates at
all, now.
Does anyone know why the automatically downloaded updates are stalling, and
how to fix/address this problem?

- assistance with error 0x8024d007
-
Hi - I'm getting an error, where WU fails just after you click the Express
or Custom buttons.
I get error 0x8024d007. I did a little research, which let me to the
Hkey_Classes_Root registry key.
I checked that permissions were "full" for system and administrators (OK).
Next I deleted \windows\softwaredistribution and allowed WU to recreate it.
Neither solution has resolved the problem. I looked in Windowsupdate.log
and see these errors. I don't know if these problems are the cause or not.
Any advice
appreciated.

- Windows Vista Updated, Can't turn on Computer
-
I run Windows Vista Ultimate on my desktop Inspiron 530S, if this is helpful.
My computer rebooted this morning to install updates and turned on, but was
slow so i restarted. Later I turned it off and now when I turn it back on it
goes to Configuring Updates 3/3 0% even though it just updated....
after a few moments it will go to the shutting down screen, shut itself down
then turn itself back on and repeat the whole thing, configuring updates 3/3,
shutting down, etc etc etc.

- RAS System Error = 1060
-
When I closed down my desktop on 9.12.09 (running XP Home) Windows
automatically downloaded updates before shutting down itself.
When I try to access the internet I get the following message "RAS System
Error = 1060".
I now cannot access the internet and appear to have lost all entries in my
"Network Connections" folder.
Can anyone please help?

- Update KB973904 keeps getting cancelled
-
Yesterday I noticed disk activity on my PC and guessed that it was
applying updates. After it quieted down I logged onto my Administrator
account to check (I like to see what's been updated), and sure
enough there had been updates. But what was listed (after going
to Microsoft Update Home and clicking "Review your update history")
was four successful updates and then one, KB973904, with a grey
circle in the Status column, meaning Cancelled.
This I haven't seen before! There were also several High Priority
updates which hadn't been applied, and I noticed the little yellow
shield on the task bar at the bottom right of the screen telling
me that "Updates are ready for your computer". So I clicked on
the yellow shield, and the update process started again, and when
it was done there was a second cancelled KB973904 entry, and none
of the remaining updates had been applied.
So I left it at that yesterday, and when I turned on my computer
today I noticed more disk activity, and when I checked for updates
the only new entry was a third cancelled KB973904. So it's starting
to look like a problem! Anyone have any idea what is going on?
For the record, my OS is WinXP SP3, I'm using Microsoft Update (as
opposed to Windows Update), the updates that were applied successfully
yesterday were KB890830, KB971737, KB974392, and KB976416, and the
updates that remain unapplied are KB973904, KB976325, KB970430,
KB974318, KB955759, and KB976884.

- Should I update?
-
I just got a T60P Lenovo factory refurb preloaded with XP Pro SP3.
I went to the update site and got a huge update that said it would catch up
everything to date.
Back at the update site it shows 20 or 30 additional updates.
Do I really need to do all those?

- Windows update site not working
-
On one computer I get the error:
The instruction at "0x06e80068" referenced memory at "0x06380068". The
memory could not be "written".
On the other computer I get the error:
403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.
I have checked the troubleshooting for Windows update and didn't find any
reference to these problems.
Has anyone experienced these problems before and have solutions?

- Says I am not the administrator
-
I have Vista and it updates ok via the windows update but I get
an error when I try to access the microsoft update web site.
I want to update my office suite 2007 as well as my O/S all at the same time
but
the microsoft site keeps telling me I have to have administrator authority to
enter the site despite me being the only user and administrator on my machine.
Any Ideas?
I use another machine with XP and it accesses the website ok so it is
obviously a problem with the Vista O/S.
Any help is much appreciated.
