    • i have a windows vista home premium with service pack 1. i am trying to update windows and i am getting a ton of failures. i thought downloading sp2 manually would work, but nope. i am using avg free antivirus, windows firewall, and windows defender. i have tried to disable the firewall to install, then disabling the whole antivirus. a few have installed, but most fail. now, none are installing. the pc is an hp pavilion amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 5400+ 2.80 GHz, 4GB ram, 64 bit operating system. i know that vista does not have any support unless it has sp2, but i can't get it to install. do you need any more information??? does anyone have any ideas? some of the errors i am getting besides the 7E and 50 stop screens are code 80070570, code 8024200D, code 8007000D. thanks for your help!

  • Outlook Connector update broke my OL2003
    • Suddenly, out of the blue, I get this message that says, "Microsoft Outlook Connector This service is unavailable right now. Please try again later...." Then, it trys to do a update anyway and brings up a Repair/Remove panel. Even though I proceed, Outlook is still offline to my Hotmail accounts. How can Microsoft do this? I paid a lot of money for Office 2003 and then they release a MANDATORY Outlook Connector update that is totally buggy. Now, the only way that I can access my Hotmail accounts is to do so via the web. This bites. WHY couldn't Microsoft leave things alone. Everything was working until this update.

  • Update 979683 doesn't install correctly on WinSrv2003EESP2x64
    • Hi all! The update 979683 is seemingly installed correctly on my W2K3SRVEEx64sp2. But when I verify the 'hal.dll' component of the update is NOT updated. The "KB979683.log" file states that "LoadFileQueues: UpdSpGetSourceFileLocation for hal.dll failed: 0xe0000102" I have verified that the 'hal.dll' is not updated in any normal locations for 'hal.dll' under '%WINDIR%', it is still the old version. I have seen from posts on other sites that the above error might occur when MS engineering has done some kind of error in their quest for a perfect update. If you are a Microsoft Engineer reading this, please alert the QFE team. Does anyone know of a workaround for this error? Thanks!

  • Updates Fail to install
    • After spending 4 hours removing the win32/parite virus from the property manager's PC, I ran Windows Update and all security updates failed to install. On checking the update history I find that all security updates for the last 2 months also failed. The PC is now clean, so does anyone know if some residue from the infection is the cause of these failures? Or any other ideas?

  • Update for Windows Vista (KB980248) -- No more fonts available!
    • I was installed Update for Windows Vista (KB980248). After the install, the machine rebooted. The install failed and I recieved error 800700C1. It was midnight so I threw up my hands and went to bed. At 3am, Windows Update ran automatically, and this time it said it succeeded but it definately did not reboot. The update was done using a "Standard" user with no administration rights. When I startup IE 8, no fonts appear. When I startup Word, it says is cannot find any fonts and throws an out of memory error loading fonts. Other portions of windows are also turning up blank because of the lack of fonts!!!! Obviously, there is a permission problem!!!! When I login as a local admin, everything seems to work (this is how I am able to write this post). Problem is, I have several "standard" users setup for various family members that I do not trust to run as Admin. I tried searching, but either its too early or this problem is unique to me but I cannot find any information regarding this problem anywhere. How can I undo what this update was suppose to have done? I just want to run my standard users and I don't care about Office 2010! I don't know there is a restore point because this was suppost to be a permission change. Anyway, really frustrated right now and hope someone can help!

  • MS Update offline installer
    • We use a non-MS deployment tool at my company and I would like to use it to push out Microsoft Update agent to all our computers. We don't have a WSUS and our systems come imaged from Dell so most do not have MS Update only Windows update. As a result our office installs are very out of date. Does anyone know a way to get an executable installer for MS Update that I can run with a batch file on our PCs?

  • Error 646 installing 4 updtes
    • For the past several days, every time I shut down my computer (Windows 7), it told me I had 4 updates to install. Finally today I went out and tried to install them using Windows Update and got errror 646. I've also tried installing one update at a time, and they failed that way as well. Iwas able to install an optional update. The updates it's trying to install are KB980470, KB980729, KB981433 and KB981715. Can anyone give me an idea why these may not be working?

  • Diagnosing Windows Installer 3.1 hang
    • We are encountering an issue regarding the usage of Windows Installer. Our system is Windows XP SP3 with updates applied. The version of Windows Installer is 3.01.4002.5512. We have an automated installer that processes msi files. The msis are invoked via the command line via msiexec. There is a random issue where msiexec is not exiting and is thus causing our installation processing application to hang waiting for it to return. Our application is creating an instance of msiexec via command line usage. Using ProcessExplorer to do some diagnosis, there are also two additional instances of msiexec being created outside of our application. So, there are a total of three instances created. One is the instance we create ourself, one is the Windows Installer service, and the third is a child instance created by Windows Installer service. The interesting thing is that the specific install/msi that is hanging... If looking at the application event log there is an event that says the installation was successful. However, if we inspect the log file that we are creating for the msi, some of the entries in the log are missing towards the end as if something is hanging in one of the instances of msiexec. Our installation processing app is waiting for msiexec to return, so it can continue to the next msi to be installed, but because the msiexec never exits, our app hangs. Are there any known issues with this version of Windows Installer that might cause this issue? Thank you.
